Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Poison Oak, some _________ bravery/When a _________ was a tin can on a string" What're the missing words?

Answer: boyhood, telephone

Actually, childhood would work better, because I don't know how many times I played in poison oak and poison ivy as a kid. And I definitely remember my "telephone". The label for Bright Eyes is Saddle Creek.
2. "I fell asleep with you still ________ to me; you said you were afraid to _____" Find the missing words.

Answer: talking, die

The lead singer of Bright Eyes is Conor Oberst. No one is in a permanent place for the rest of the band.
3. "In __________ you were dressed in ________ clothes/Were you made __________ why'd you lock them in a ___________" What are the missing words?

Answer: polaroids, women's, ashamed, drawer

Do you remember when you were a kid and dressed up in your parent's clothes? The song "Poison Oak" comes off the "I'm Wide Awake and It's Morning" album.
4. "Well I don't think that I ever loved you more/Than when you turned away/ and you slammed the door/ when you stole the car/ and drove towards _________." Where you take the stolen car?

Answer: Mexico

In order to help with hurricane Katrina relief, Mexico sent bottled water to the troubled areas. Ironic, isn't it? Oberst has been writing since he was 13 and was tagged "rock boy genius" by music press in the last few years.
5. "When you wrote bad checks/ just to fill your arms. I was young enough/ I still believed in ________" What'd you still believe in?

Answer: war

Sadly, I have been unable to find any information saying Bright Eyes has won any awards. Although this is believeable because of the number of people that have never heard of the band. Bright Eyes has been on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn".
6. "Well, let the __________ cry themselves to sleep/ And all their tearful words will turn back into _______." Whose words and what do they turn into?

Answer: poets, steam

This song has a lot of poetry within it as well as many underlying meanings. It's unbelieveable that they haven't won any awards for their music. Bright Eyes was a prominent addition to the MTV2-televised 2003 "Shortlist Awards".
7. "But me, I'm a single cell on a serpent's tongue/ there's a muddy field where a garden was/ And I'm glad _______ got away, but I'm still stcuk out here." Who got away?

Answer: You

Who wouldn't want someone they love to get away? The whole lines about a single cell on a serpent's tongue reminds me of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. On the "I'm Wide Awake and It's Morning" album, are some of Conor's finest songs, featuring guest vocal appearances from Emmylou Harris and Jim James.
8. "My clothes are soaking wet with your _________'s tears." Who do the tears belong to?

Answer: brother

This produces a nice image for the productive and inventive imagination. The second album Oberst recorded, "Digital Ash In A Digital Urn", is a more produced, band-centric album featuring cameo appearances by Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
9. "The end of paralysis was a statuette/ and now I'm drunk as hell on a ______ bench."

Answer: piano

I gave you the answer at the very beginning. I put it in the introduction, "AKA the drunk on a piano bench song." Jesse Harris, Jason Boesel of Rilo Kiley, multi-instrumentalist and producer Mike Mogis, Nick White of Tilly And The Wall, Matt Maginn of Cursive, Clay Leverett and Andy LeMaster of Now It's Overhead, former The Good Life member Jiha Lee, Maria Taylor of Azure Ray, Clark Beachle of The Faint, Alex McMannus of The Bruces, Jake Bellows of Neva Dinova and Jimmy Tamborello of The Postal Service are all separate vocal appearances on the two Bright Eyes albums.
10. "And as I press the keys/ it all gets reversed/ the sound of _____________ makes me happier." What makes me happier?

Answer: loneliness

I really hoped you liked the quiz, and I also hope you just took it and didn't look up the lyrics to get the answers.
