Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After this band's demise quite a few records were released, like "Some Product. Carri on ...", "Flogging a Dead Horse", "Chaos", "We Have Cum For Your Children", "The Swindle Continues" and "Filthy Lucre Live". What bands' legacy was milked for all it's worth?

Answer: Sex Pistols

Indeed. The Sex Pistols released only one album during their existence. Still, you can buy about 50 different albums by them. And that's not counting the bootlegs.
2. Belinda Carlisle, Darby Crash, Don Bonebrake, Donna Rhia, Lorna Doom, Nickey Beat, Pat Smear - they've all been members of what band?

Answer: the Germs

Belinda Carlisle used to be the drummer for the seminal LA punk outfit the Germs. Guitarist Pat Smear went on to play with Death Folk, Nirvana and the Foo Fighters. Singer Darby Crash (aka Bobby Pynn) died from a heroin overdose on December 7, 1980.
3. Which of the following is not a member of the jocular band White Flag?

Answer: Sex Patriot

Besides core member Pat Fear, White Flag (as opposed to Black Flag, geddit?) has at various times included members of bands like the Posies, the Muffs, Redd Kross, Bad Religion, the Melvins and Hole.
4. Wayne County - now Jayne - of the Electric Chairs famously hit the singer of another band over the head with a mike stand. The victim was making threatening remarks about the fact County was wearing a dress. Who was on the receiving end of this sobering attack, suffering a serious head wound?

Answer: Handsome Dick Manitoba, the Dictators

Manitoba and County have long since made up. BTW, clearly it couldn't've been David Johansen, cos he used to wear dresses himself, while in the New York Dolls.
5. Whom has serial collaborator Iggy Pop never worked with?

Answer: Brian Eno

Iggy Pop has also collaborated with David Bowie, Ivan Kral (Patti Smith Group), Slash & Duff from G'nR, Steve Jones (ex-Pistol), Deborah Harry & Chris Stein & Clem Burke & Frank Infante & Gary Valentine (all of Blondie, but not with all of them at the same time), the Nymphs, White Zombie, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Death in Vegas, Don Was, Goran Bregovic, Kate Pierson, Waddy Wachtel, Bill Laswell, Henry Rollins, Tony & Hunt Sales, Sonic Youth, Lisa Germano, John Hiatt, the Cult, Mooseman (Body Count), Buckethead, the Cramps, les Rita Mitsouko and he's even working with the Asheton brothers again.
6. When the Ramones recorded the covers album "Acid Eaters" in 1993 as a tribute to their favorite 60s bands (Love, the Who, Rolling Stones, the Seeds etc) they got one of their heroes to sing backing vocals. Who is - gabba gabba - one of us?

Answer: Pete Townshend, the Who

Former porn star Traci Lords also provided vocals on the album.
7. What were the Bad Brains famous for? Besides playing the most breakneck hardcore, of course.

Answer: If you went to see them live on sundays their rasta faith prohibited them from playing hardcore and they would only play reggae.

They were also famous for their big dreadlocks. Handy for smuggling illicit substances.
8. After Adam and the Ants recorded the album 'Dirk Wears White Sox' in 1979 former manager Malcolm McLaren stole all of Adam's musicians to form which other band?

Answer: Bow Wow Wow

Bow Wow Wow's singer Annabella Lwin was only 15. McLaren discovered her working in a launderette. He put her naked on the cover of their debut album 'See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang, Yeah, City All Over! Go Ape Crazy!'. Her mum and the authorities were not pleased. Subsequently the cover of the album - a tribute to Manet's painting 'Déjeuner sur l'herbe' - was changed.
9. In 1978 the New York band Suicide played a gig in the AB in Brussels, Belgium. They were support act for a quite different sounding band and the crowd didn't react too good to Suicide's droning synth sounds. In fact, they rioted. Chairs flew around, someone snatched Alan Vega's microphone away from him and everyone kept chanting the name of the main act throughout Suicide's set. In the end the police had to be called in. Who was the main act?

Answer: Elvis Costello & the Attractions

Costello was very angry with the crowd and called them small-minded fools. He played a very short set. Suicide's tumultuous concert was preserved for future generations on the bootleg '23 Minutes over Brussels'. The cd re-release of their debut album included the concert as bonus material.
10. The English festival 'Holidays in the Sun' changed its name to 'Wasted Festival' in 2004. But it's still a punk rock nostalgia bonanza. Lots of bands from the glory days reform especially for the occasion. In what year was it held for the first time?

Answer: 1996

Some 'classic' bands that have played at the festival are: Stiff Little Fingers, Chelsea, The Boys, UK Subs, Sham 69, Vice Squad, Vibrators, Cockney Rejects, GBH, 999, The Exploited, Tenpole Tudor, the Damned, the Dickies, Peter & the Test Tube Babies, the Lurkers, Captain Sensible, Ari-Up's Slits, D.O.A., Dead Kennedys, the Adicts, the Notsensibles, Eater, Spizzenergi, Funeral Dress, Suicidal Tendencies, Slaughter & the Dogs, DRI, Anti-Nowhere League, Radio Stars, Jayne County & the Electric Chairs, the Drones, Alternative TV, Suburban Studs, Splodgenessabounds, Theatre of Hate, the Godfathers, Zounds, the Business, etc.

Despite the previous name of the festival, the Sex Pistols declined to play.
