Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ronnie James Dio was the lead singer in Black Sabbath and which other band?

Answer: Rainbow

Remember "Man on the Silver Mountain"? He sang for Sabbath, Rainbow and Elf before going solo. Had the hard task of trying to fill Ozzy's shoes with Sabbath.
2. Who was Motorhead's guitarist on the "Ace of Spades" album?

Answer: Fast Eddie Clarke

He went on to form Fastway in the mid 80s. Some people think he had the fastest fingers in rock at the time. Pretty much disappeared from the rock scene.
3. Black Sabbath were originally known as whom?

Answer: Earth

Started out as a folk and blues based band. Decided if people like scary movies why not scary music? Changed their name to Black Sabbath, after an old Boris Karloff movie, and the rest is history.
4. Ozzy's birth name is?

Answer: John

He's been called Ozzy since he was a kid.
5. Bill Ward sings vocals on what song? (from "Technical Ecstasy")

Answer: 'It's Alright'

Doesn't do a bad job. Story is that Ozzy was too messed up to record that day.
6. AC/DC's original lead singer is?

Answer: Dave Evans

He sang up to 74', then Bon took over. The band felt that Dave was too glam for the music and image. Bon came in, laid those snarly, dirty vocals down, and had the job.
7. 'Gone Shootin' is from what which AC/DC album?

Answer: 'Powerage'

The album that I feel captures the band at its best. It's also the first album where some of the music and the lyrics were written together, which was rare for the band up to this point.
8. Ozzy's first solo album, "Blizzard Of Ozz", was released in what year? (in the UK)

Answer: 1980

It was a vast departure from the Black Sabbath sound most of his fans were used to. It also made Randy Rhoads a guitar god. A lot of hardcore fans consider this his finest album.
9. Randy Rhoads came from what band?

Answer: Quiet Riot

As did Rudy Sarzo (bass). Ozzy also wanted their drummer, Frankie Banilli, but he couldn't get a work permit for England. He hooked up with Ozzy, cut two albums, and became a legend.
10. Which band toured in '84 and '85 under 'The World Slavery Tour'?

Answer: Iron Maiden

My personal favorite tour. Between them and Priest, they owned metal in the 80s. No make up, teased hair or pretty boys. Twin guitars, leather and a lethal dose of metal music. Your ears rang for days after seeing them.
11. 'I'm waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime'...is from which song?

Answer: 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'

My personal favorite. Maiden was known more for epic guitar songs like this rather than bar chord songs.
12. Which band's two guitarists are Tipton and Downing?

Answer: Judas Priest

One of the four top duos onstage that I've seen. Like Ace and Paul of Kiss, they both played the solos together, bouncing back and forth off each other. It added a thicker sound than most bands had.
13. Who replaced Rob Halford on vocals?

Answer: Ripper Owens

Found him playing in a Priest tribute band called Exciter. Every fan's dream. He can sound remarkably like Halford when he wants to, which for the music, is important for very few singers can reach as high as Halford can. A perfect replacement.
14. Mick Mars plays guitar for which band?

Answer: Motley Crue

15. Which drummer played for both Motley Crue and Ozzy?

Answer: Randy Castillo

Randy played for Ozzy for over ten years before joining Crue. Sadly, he passed away in '02.
