Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Heavy Metal: Who was Iron Maiden's vocalist for the album "Virtual XI"?

Answer: Blaze Bayley

Blaze Bayley was Iron Maiden's vocalist while Bruce Dickinson pursued his solo singing career. Their first (technically third) singer, Paul Di Anno, only made two albums with Iron Maiden. He was kicked out of the band due to drinking problems. Dennis Wilcock was Maiden's singer after Paul Day. Neither of them were able to make a record with Maiden before leaving the band. Blaze Bayley also sang for the bands Blaze Bayley and Wolfsbane.
2. Rock and Roll: In the "Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" chart of the November, 2003 issue, the Beatles had the number one overall album. What was it?

Answer: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band

Each of these albums were in the top 10 of the list. All of the people of the cover of "Sgt. Pepper" were celebrities. Some of these included Bob Dylan, Edgar Allan Poe, Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, and The Beatles (George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, and John Lennon).
3. Grunge: Which of these grunge bands didn't originate in Washington?

Answer: Stone Temple Pilots

A big grunge movement began in Washington in the 1980s and 1990s. It started mostly in the Seattle area. The biggest bands were probably Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains were also big grunge bands from Washington. Stone Temple Pilots originated in San Diego, California.
4. Alternative: What album did the song "Creep" by Radiohead come from?

Answer: Pablo Honey

"Pablo Honey" was Radiohead's first album. It was released in 1992. "Creep" was Pablo Honey's biggest hit. "The Bends" and "OK Computer" were some of Radiohead's first albums.
5. Punk Rock: Who were the four original Ramones?

Answer: Tommy, Dee Dee, Johnny, and Joey

The Ramones started out with only three band members: Dee Dee Ramone, Johnny Ramone, and Joey Ramone. Then Tommy joined. He was their drummer. Then Marky took over as drummer, then Richie, then Elvis, then Marky again. Marky stayed with them until they all broke up.
6. Thrash Metal: Dave Mustaine left his second band to be the frontman (vocalist and guitarist) for Megadeth. What band did he leave?

Answer: Metallica

Dave Mustaine was originally the frontman for the band "Panic". He left them to join Metallica. He was later kicked out of Metallica, due to drinking and drug problems. The Metallica band members couldn't handle him drinking and using drugs. Brian Slagel, an early band manager of Metallica, described Mustaine as a "real crazy person" and "a raging maniac".

He also said that the band members couldn't handle his behavior. Mustaine has been very successful with Megadeth, releasing eleven studio albums and six live albums by April, 2008.
7. Metalcore: On their album "As Daylight Dies", Killswitch Engage made a cover of what Dio song?

Answer: Holy Diver

"Holy Diver" originally appeared on Dio's album "Holy Diver". KsE made a cover version of it on their album "As Daylight Dies". It was the last song on that album. KsE's version sounds more like a remix rather than a cover, because they gave it a metalcore type sound. The rest of the songs are Dio hits.
8. Nu Metal: Limp Bizkit originated in Agoura Hills, California. True or False?

Answer: False

Linkin Park originated in Agoura Hills, California, but Limp Bizkit originated in Jacksonville, Florida. They are both considered nu metal bands. Nu metal is very similar to other genres, like rap rock, groove metal, alternative metal, and funk metal. Nu metal is mostly a fusion of hip-hop/rap and various types of metal/rock.
9. Hard Rock: Disturbed had a song on the "Transformers" soundtrack that was not previously released on their other albums. What was it called?

Answer: This Moment

"Hell", "Two Worlds", and "Monster" were all songs on singles, B-sides, and live albums by Disturbed. There were rumors that "This Moment" would be on the 2008 album "Indestructible", but David Draiman (Disturbed's lead vocalist) cleared those rumors.

The first single from "Indestructible" was called "Inside the Fire". A second song, "Perfect Insanity", was also released on Disturbed's MySpace page.
10. Progressive: Coheed and Cambria released one single prior to the release of their album "No World for Tomorrow". It was featured on the album. What was it called?

Answer: The Running Free

"The Running Free" was also the first music video from "No World for Tomorrow". The second single from "No World for Tomorrow" was called "Feathers". Its music video was also released. "No World for Tomorrow" is a real song on the album, but was not one of the first two singles. "Welcome Home" is a single from Coheed and Cambria's previous album.
