Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To which song on "Test for Echo" did Pye Dubois contribute to the lyrics?

Answer: Test for Echo

Pye Dubois has collaborated with Neil Peart to write many of Rush's lyrics over the years. Other examples are "Tom Sawyer" from "Moving Pictures", "Force Ten" from "Hold Your Fire" and "Between Sun and Moon" from "Counterparts".
2. Neil Peart recorded the drums on "Test for Echo" using traditional grip as opposed to his usual matched grip. This was due to tutelage under what jazz drummer?

Answer: Freddie Gruber

He stopped using traditional grip after "Test for Echo" saying it didn't feel as natural as matched grip. Traditional grip is widely used amongst jazz drummers.
3. What is the figure depicted on the album cover called?

Answer: An "Inukshuk"

Inuksuit (that's the plural) were made by native Americans who lived in the arctic regions of North America, such as the Inuit. It is my opinion that the Inukshuk on the cover of "Test for Echo" is actually made of small stones. It's almost certainly not to scale.
4. Which two songs on "Test for Echo" start with the same guitar chord?

Answer: "Half the World" and "The Color of Right"

They also share a similar guitar pattern, I don't know how to describe it, but it's at the very end of "Half the World". You'll hear an extended version of the same thing in the next track, "The Color of Right". It could be accidental, but placed back to back as they are, one has to wonder...
5. On the lyrics page for "Resist", what sign is at the top of the stone figure?

Answer: A "No U-turn" sign

This is, I believe, to introduce an element of "Never turn back". Quite obvious, really. A "One way" sign also could have worked, but it wouldn't have been as poignant, in my opinion.
6. Which of the following occurs as a sound clip in "Limbo"?

Answer: "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"; a spoken phrase

The clip is from the 1962 novelty song "Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett.
7. "Test for Echo" was brought to us by which letter?

Answer: "R--r--r--r"

All of the remasters from "Presto" on have this, as far as I know. Could start earlier. I actually don't think it's a remaster thing, because "Vapor Trails" and "Snakes & Arrows" have them as well, but I could be wrong. It's a mystery.

UPDATE: Special thanks to AESfan for informing me of the following:

"Saying that the album was brought by a letter began on "Power Windows." It was because the album had so many songs that began with "m". (It was brought by the letter 'm')"
8. The producer who produced "Test for Echo" had worked with Rush before. What other albums did he produce?

Answer: "Power Windows" and "Hold Your Fire"

This was a little bit of a trick question, but not really. Peter Collins did produce "Counterparts", but not "Grace Under Pressure". He did, however, produce both "Power Windows" and "Hold Your Fire". The funny thing is that Peter Collins was very famous in the 80's for producing a very quintessential 80's synthy sound. "Counterparts" and "Test for Echo" are arguably Rush's most hard-edged albums.
9. In the album booklet, there is a quote etched into the stone on the page for "Carve Away the Stone". What does it say?

Answer: If you want something done right... just forget it.

I really have no idea what this has to do with the rest of the album. Or even just that song. Apparently it was a Lerxt quote. Alex and Geddy always had a bunch of weird quotes during recording time, according to Peart.
10. How many times does the figure from the cover appear INSIDE the album booklet?

Answer: 6

These appear three times just inside around the map, once on the page opposite the lyrics to "Dog Years", another as the main illustration for "Resist" and the last is in a little circle on the "Carve Away the Stone" page.

Thanks for playing!
