Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Walk of Life"

Answer: Dire Straits

"Walk of Life" is a rock-and-roll song by Dire Straits off of their fifth studio album "Brothers in Arms". The song talks about a street busker named Johnny who plays all of these old classics "to make it pay". It was a big success for Dire Straits, but, amazingly, was almost excluded from the album by co-producer Neil Dorfsman. Luckily, he was outvoted and the song reached number one in Ireland, number two in South Africa, number three in New Zealand, and had good success elsewhere around the world.
2. "Walk This Way"

Answer: Aerosmith

"Walk This Way" is a rock song by Aerosmith off of their third studio album "Toys in the Attic". It was released as a single right after "Sweet Emotion", and the success of these songs and others really helped cement Aerosmith as one of the leaders of rock music. It tells of a high school student who has a big change in his life. The song originally hit number ten on the US Billboard Hot 100.

About ten years after its original success, "Walk This Way" was covered by hip-hop group Run-DMC in collaboration with Aerosmith and the song really took off. It later was acclaimed as the second-best song of 1986, and the collaboration between the two bands opened up the path to the genre of rap-rock. This time around, the song hit number four on the US Billboard Hot 100.
3. "Walk Like an Egyptian"

Answer: The Bangles

"Walk Like an Egyptian" is a pop-rock song by The Bangles off of their second studio album "Different Light". It became the group's first number one single on December 20, 1986, on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became the number one single of all of 1987. Liam Sternberg was inspired with the idea of the song when he observed people trying to maintain their balance on a boat in the English Channel on choppy waters. Though it was originally offered to Toni Basil, The Bangles got it from their producer and managed to make a name for themselves with this song.
4. "Walkin' on the Sun"

Answer: Smash Mouth

"Walkin' on the Sun" is a rock song by Smash Mouth off of their first studio album "Fush Yu Mang". It was the first single the band released and it became their first hit. It reached number one on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and on the US Billboard Adult Top 40. Greg Camp wrote the song to get people to get along and it was inspired by the 1991 police assault on Rodney King in Los Angeles.

It was the last song to be added to the album "Fush Yu Mang" when it was discovered by the band's drummer, Kevin Coleman.
5. "Walk the Dinosaur"

Answer: Was (Not Was)

"Walk the Dinosaur" is a funk song by Was (Not Was) off of their third studio album (and breakthrough) "What Up, Dog?". It's an interesting song with a catchy tune that says "Everybody walk the dinosaur" but actually refers to a nuclear
Armageddon. It peaked at number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 and had success worldwide.
6. "Walk on the Wild Side"

Answer: Lou Reed

"Walk on the Wild Side" is a glam rock song by Lou Reed off of his second solo studio album "Transformer". It was considered pretty racy when it was first released, talking about the then-taboo topics of transgender people, oral sex, drugs, and more. It is based off of actual people Lou Reed knew through The Factory, Andy Warhol's studio.

When the song was originally released, it peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100. When Lou Reed passed away in 2013, the song gained new popularity and re-charted.
7. "Walking on Broken Glass"

Answer: Annie Lennox

"Walking on Broken Glass" is a pop song by Annie Lennox off of her debut studio album "Diva". She released this song after breaking through in the music world with her duo Eurythmics. It was well received by critics and fans alike, and was intended as a metaphor for a love affair that has crashed and broken, like the glass in the song.

It hit number one in Canada and number 14 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
8. "Walk on the Ocean"

Answer: Toad The Wet Sprocket

"Walk on the Ocean" is an alternative rock song by Toad the Wet Sprocket off of their third studio album "Fear". The song has lyrics that seemingly make no sense:

"Walk on the ocean
Step on the stones
Flesh becomes water
Wood becomes bone"

The song's writer, Glen Phillips, admitted that he wrote them as placeholders but could think of nothing better to use in their stead. The song peaked at number 18 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and had moderate success elsewhere around the world.
9. "Walking in My Shoes"

Answer: Depeche Mode

"Walking in My Shoes" is an alternative rock song by Depeche Mode off of their eighth studio album "Songs of Faith and Devotion". It was the second single release off of the album after "I Feel You" and it equalled the success of that single, both of them hitting number one on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks, though on the US Billboard Hot 100 it only peaked at number 69. Critically, it got mixed reviews, however, Bono (of U2) said that it was one of "60 songs that saved my life".
10. "Walking in Memphis"

Answer: Marc Cohn

"Walking in Memphis" is a rock song by Marc Cohn off of his debut studio album "Marc Cohn". The song reached number 13 for Cohn on the US Billboard Hot 100 and remains his only top-40 song. It is better remembered, however, for the cover that Cher remade in 1995 for her twenty-first studio album "It's a Man's World".

This single was a huge let-down for the artist as it did not chart in the United States at all.
