1. A handsome, green-eyed Englishman was moodily sipping a glass of wine. As the band started up he muttered, "Play the song __________, before she left and changed it all to sadness."
"Hello," a curly-haired, blue-eyed man with a strong Welsh accent greeted him. "What was that you said? And, why are you at a lonely table just for one, in a bright and crowded room?"
2. The Englishman nodded to the Welshman and resumed watching the room. "There she goes," he said. To himself he added, "Goodbye, goodbye my lover. The Spanish night is over." The Welshman followed his friend's gaze to see the most beautiful girl gently walk across the lonely floor. "Who's that?" he asked.
The Englishman didn't answer directly. Instead, gaze still on the girl he murmured, "There goes my reason for living. There goes the one of my dreams. There goes my only possession. __________."
3. Lost in the shadows of the past, the Englishman took a sip of his wine. The Welshman watched him in concern. "What are you thinking?" he asked.
The Englishman blinked, as though banishing a lovely but painful memory. "Where are those sweet Septembers, the joy my heart remembers?" he said sadly. "Why did the dream go by so fast? Was it __________?"
4. "You're just revivin' old emotions," the Welshman awkwardly tried to comfort his friend, who shook his head. Again he looked toward the girl. The Welshman thought she was dancing with tears in her eyes.
"I should find somebody new," the Englishman sighed. "But I don't want no one but you. How could you leave without regret?" He looked up and asked plaintively, "__________?"
5. The Welshman said quickly, "You're easy to love." He cleared his throat. Tell me about her," he suggested, moving back to safer ground.
For the first time, the Englishman grew animated. "She has unforgettable blue __________," he exclaimed, "prettiest eyes in all of Mexico. I used to tell her, please smile for me once more before I go. Soon, I'll return, bringing you all the love your heart can hold."
6. "But beautiful!" the Welshman exclaimed. "How did the two of you meet?"
The Englishman relapsed into gloom. "This time one year ago, I had __________ with her, two lonely people together. I fell in love with her."
7. "It's not unusual. It happens every day," the Welshman murmured with a slight smile hovering behind his mustache. The Englishman didn't seem to hear him, but pursued his own thought.
"She said to me, '__________,' that's all I want, love. __________ or not at all. Just promise me this, that you'll give me all your kisses, every winter, every summer, every fall.'" He sighed.
8. "And then what?" the Welshman asked gently.
The Englishman shrugged. We made it happen," He said. "And then the flame of love died in her eyes and she said," he swallowed. "She said, 'I don't love you anymore. To live a lie would bring us pain. So, __________, and let me love again.'"
9. "That was long ago and far away..." the Welshman paused. Maybe that hadn't been the right thing to say.
Sighing, the Englishman brushed away a tear. "Yes," he agreed, "it was __________." He raised his glass and lowered it again. "I try to run away from sad regrets. The bitter wine won't help me to forget that I locked up my heart and threw away the precious key."
10. The Englishman drew out a red silk handkerchief. "But nothing lasts forever," he said. He met his friend's eyes candidly. " All at once we lost our way."
The Welshman paused. What was that foreign expression he wanted, one word said twice? Ah, yes, that was it.
"__________," he commiserated, "too bad, too bad. Hello, goodbye, and suddenly it's over, and there's nothing you can do. Too bad you couldn't make your dreams come true.
11. How are you getting on now?" the Welshman asked after a short silence.
The Englishman spoke steadily. "Every day I wake up, then I start to break up." His voice broke. "Lonely is __________. Every day I start out, then I cry my heart out."
12. "Still?" The Welshman paused. "Do you think you'll ever get over her?" he asked quietly.
The Englishman shook his head. Hardly noticing what he was doing, he drained his glass. "I was a fool, and like a fool I cannot hide my sorrow," he said gloomily. "__________ maybe there'll be a new love to love me. I can't go on belonging to the past. But I pray that one day __________ she'll come back and be mine."
13. "Someday tonight," the Welshman suggested incautiously. He had been watching the girl and thought she looked just as miserable as his friend. He hadn't meant to speak out loud though. Fortunately, the Englishman seemed not to hear.
"Every moment's a day," he said querulously, "Every day seems a lifetime. I can't wait a moment more. Tell me, __________?"
14. "I wish I knew," the Welshman sighed, trying hard to catch the girl's eye. There! She saw him. He beckoned surreptitiously. Then leaning close to his friend he whispered, "Don't look now, but I saw her walk our way." The Englishman sat up, his shoulders straightening, the light returning to his green eyes.
The girl tapped him hesitantly on the shoulder. "Take me back again," she pleaded. "We will get a second chance?"
"My Cherie Amour," he exclaimed in delight. He folded her in his arms. "We'll find our __________, for love is warmer in December. My darling, stay here in my arms till summer comes along."
15. "This night is a magic night," Maria sighed contentedly.
