Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Dedicated to the One I Love" was a Number Two hit for The Mamas and Papas in 1967. What distinguished this song from earlier releases by the band?

Answer: It was the first hit song on which Michelle Phillips sang lead.

"Dedicated to the One I Love" featured Michelle Phillips singing lead vocals for the first time on a Mamas and Papas US Top Ten hit. The other members of the band backed her during various sections of the song. Michelle had parted ways with the band in 1966 but rejoined later the same year.
The following year Mama Cass belted out a version of "Dream a Little Dream of Me", a song that Michelle had introduced to the band. The song was released as performed by Mama Cass with the Mamas and the Papas.
By the time "Dream a Little Dream of Me" was released Mama Cass was already expressing a desire to become a solo artist, but remained with the group until they officially disbanded in the early seventies.
Producer Lou Adler used studio musicians such as keyboardist Larry Knechtel, drummer Hal Blaine and Joe Osborn on bass on most of the recordings by the Mamas and Papas.
