Weill was born in Dessau, Germany, March 2nd 1900, and died in New York City, April 3rd, 1950.

They divorced for a time when he left Germany to live in France in 1933. Lenya was noted for her performances of many of Weill's compositions and made a number of definitive recordings of his work.
