Lester B. Pearson was instrumental in founding the United Nations, NATO and The United Nations Emergency Force. In 1957, he helped defuse the Suez Crisis through the United Nations. The selection committee stated that he had "saved the world" and he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Pearson is also considered the father of modern peacekeeping.
