Answer: Diana, Princess of Wales

Diana Frances Spencer was born in Park House,Sandringham, Norfolk on 1st July 1961. Her stepmother is the Countess of Dartmouth, the daughter of the novelist Barbara Cartland.
Of the alternatives, Sophie Rhys-Jones was born in Oxford in 1965, Sarah Ferguson was born in London in 1959, and Prince Andrew was born in Buckingham Palace in 1960.

Nelson was born in Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk on 29th September 1758. His mother was the grand-niece of Sir Robert Walpole, Britain's first recognized Prime Minister.
The four alternatives are all years in which famous battle of the Napoleonic era occurred. In 1797, Nelson was instrumental in Britain's victory over the Spanish in the Battle of Cape St Vincent. A year later, he scored another famous victory in the Battle of the Nile. 1801 marked another of Nelson's successes, in the Battle of Copenhagen. The Battle of Trafalgar, which took place on 21st October 1805, ranks alongside the Battle of Hastings and the D-Day landings of WWII as a date that most British schoolchildren should remember.
Of course, Nelson died during the battle. The final major battle of the Napoleonic Wars took place ten years later, on June 18, 1815, when the Duke of Wellington scored a famous victory at the Battle of Waterloo.

Answer: 'Hi-de-Hi!'

In the eight years of 'Hi-de-Hi', Gladys Pugh gained in stature, becoming the holiday camp's chief yellowcoat and sports organizer. She eventually married Clive (played by David Griffin) and they emigrated to Australia. Actress Ruth Madoc, who played Gladys, was born Ruth Llewellyn in 1943 in Norwich.

Her family traveled a lot and she was bought up by her grandmother in Llansamlet, near Swansea in South Wales. She made her first TV appearance in 'The Black & White Minstrel Show' and her film debut in 'Fiddler on the Roof'.

More recently, she has appearance regularly in 'Little Britain', playing Daffyd's mother.

Henry Calthorpe Blofeld, dubbed Blowers by the late great Brian Johnston (aka Johnners), was born at Hoverton Home Farm in Norfolk in 1939. He had cricketing form in his family -- his uncle, Freddie Calthorpe, was a former England captain. An Old Etonian, Henry enjoyed a limited first-class career as a wicketkeeper/batsman in a two-year stint representing Cambridge University in the late 1950s.

His career as a cricket writer began with the England tour of India in 1963. In 1972, he abandoned print for the lure of radio, and he has been a member of the 'Test Match Special' team ever since (except for a brief break in the early 1990s). Blowers was awarded an OBE in 2003.

His autobiography is titled 'My Dear Old Thing: Talking Cricket'.

Sir Matthew Clive Pinsent was born in Holt, Norfolk in 1970. He won his first Olympic gold in the Coxless Pairs at the 1992 games in Barcelona. He repeated the feat in Atlanta four years later, then added successive golds in the Coxless Fours in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004). The alternatives are all multiple Olympic champions. Seb Coe also won four Olympic medals, gold in the 1500m in Moscow (1980) and Los Angeles (1984), and silver in the 800m at the same Games.

He was born in London in 1956. Sir Stephen Redgrave is Britain's most successful Olympian of all-time, with five gold and one bronze medal to his name.

His run of gold medals began in the Coxed Fours in Los Angeles in 1984, continued in the Coxless Pairs in Seoul, Barcelona and Atlanta, and culminated in the Coxless Fours in Sydney in 2000.

Edith Louisa Cavell, born in 1865 in Swardeston, Norfolk became a director of the newly established Red Cross nursing school in Brussels in 1907. When Germans occupied Belgium at the beginning of WWI, she stayed on to nurse injured men (from both sides) and to help injured Allied to return home.

She was arrested and charged with harboring Allied soldiers in August 1915 and executed two months later. A statue to Cavell stands opposite the National Portrait Gallery in London. The alternatives are three more war-time nursing heroines. Ruby Bradley was an American nurse in the Philippines during the WWII Japanese occupation. Georgina Pope was a Canadian nurse who served in South Africa during the 2nd Boer War and in France during WWI.

Matthew Macfayden was born in Great Yarmouth in 1974. He played MI5 agent Tom Quinn for three years, 2002-03-04, on the espionage series 'Spooks'. In 2005, he starred as Fitzwilliam Darcy in the film version of 'Pride and Prejudice'. In 2008, he appeared as the obsessive-compulsive Gil Hollis in the new TV series 'Ashes to Ashes'. He has not appeared in either of the other alternatives.
