Father of Andrei and Nikita, Sergei Mikhalkov, was called Stalin's court poet and wrote the lyrics for the Soviet anthem. When Russia reinstated the Soviet hymn as a national anthem, Sergei Mikhalkov (at 87) also wrote the lyrics for the new version.

Helmut Rahn, Max Morlock and Werner Kohlmeyer were other players on the 1954 team; their brothers are mere invention, though. The only other brothers to have become world champions are Jack and Bobby Charlton (England, 1966). Immensely popular Fritz Walter, captain of the 1954 squad that staged the "Miracle of Bern" (the Hungarian were heavy favourites), died in June 2002.
