Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 1777 - This woman was a younger sister of Joseph and Napoleon Bonaparte. In 1804, she was made a member of the Imperial family, and the next year was given Lucca and Piombino. She was made Grand Duchess of Tuscany in 1809, and lost the title following Napoleon's fall in 1814. Who was this woman, the only Bonaparte of her generation that lived to adulthood to die before Napoleon?

Answer: Elisa Bonaparte

Elisa Bonaparte married Felix Pasquale Baciocchi in 1797. Baciocchi was from a noble family in Corsica and a member of the French Army, but was not particularly wealthy. Following Napoleon's rise to the Emperor of France, Elisa became Princess of Lucca and Piombino, and held power instead of Felix.

They separated in 1805, much to the liking of Napoleon. However, after Elisa was given the title of Grand Duchess of Tuscany, Felix rejoined her. The couple had four children, though only one lived past the age of 20.
2. 1808 - This American politician came up with the Free Soil Party's slogan "Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Men." In 1836 he helped head the abolitionist movement in the United States, and was thanked by being elected Senator and later Governor of Ohio. He was made Secretary of the Treasury under Abraham Lincoln in 1861 and named Chief Justice of the Supreme Court three years later. Who was this man?

Answer: Salmon P. Chase

Salmon P. Chase began his political career as a pro-slavery Democrat, but following the death of his wife, Katherine Jane Garmiss, in 1835, he began questioning his prior beliefs. He defended a fugitive slave in "Jones v. Van Zandt," and while the Supreme Court ruled against him, it helped strengthen the abolitionist movement.

In 1849, as a member of the Free Soil Party, he was elected Senator, and in 1856 became the first Republican Governor of Ohio (the Republicans having absorbed the Free Soil Party).

As Chief Justice, he oversaw the adoption of the Reconstruction Amendments, cementing his place in history.
3. 1919 - This American actor found most of his success in television, but was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor when he played Kyle Hadley in "Written on the Wind." He later won an Emmy for the TV show "The Untouchables" out of two nominations, and earned another nomination for hosting "Unsolved Mysteries." Who was this actor, who also played Rex Kramer in "Airplane!"?

Answer: Robert Stack

Robert Stack began his acting career with several well-received movies, such as "First Love," "The Mortal Storm" and "A Little Bit of Heaven." He made nine movies from 1939-1942, but then entered World War II in the US Navy. After several other roles, he starred as Eliot Ness in "The Untouchables" from 1959-1963.

He would eventually reprise the role in 1991 for "The Return of Eliot Ness." To complement his acting skills, he earned notoriety for his comedic skill, seen best in the 1980 movie "Airplane!" From 1987-2002, Stack hosted "Unsolved Mysteries," and the next year he died from a heart attack.
4. 1931 - This American entertainer made his first performance in the 1957 movie "A Face in the Crowd." He earned his last two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor for a Drama in "Millennium" in 1998, and for a Comedy in "The Drew Carey Show" in 1999. Reilly died on May 25, 2007.

Who is this pitcher, who threw no-hitters in 1978 and 1983?

Answer: Bob Forsch

Bob Forsch was drafted as a 3rd baseman by the Cardinals in the 1968 draft, but before entering the MLB in 1974, was switched to become a pitcher. He was one of the best hitting pitchers in the game, winning the Silver Slugger Award in 1980 and 1987. He started two games during the 1982 World Series, but lost both of them.

He finished his career 168-136 with a 3.76 ERA. When Forsch threw his no-hitter on September 26, 1983, he became the 26th pitcher in history to throw multiple no-hitters.

Answer: Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has received the vast majority of her recognition from "Seinfeld" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine." Aside from all of her Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for "Seinfeld," she also received four nominations for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for the first four seasons of "New Adventures", winning her first in 2006.

She also won a Golden Globe for "Seinfeld" from two nominations, and earned a Golden Globe nomination for "New Adventures" in 2007.

His very next album, "Dangerous Man," was released in 2006 and not only hit #1 on the US Country chart, but also made #3 on the Billboard Top 200. That CD included "Ladies Love Country Boys." Still, "Songs About Me" outsold "Dangerous Man" as it was certified 2x Multi-Platinum.

In 1996, Adkins won the ACM Top New Male Vocalist, and his 2009 song "You're Gonna Miss This" won the ACM Single of the Year Award.
9. 1966 - This actor began his career on stage, performing in "Brighton Beach Memoirs" and "On Golden Pond" amongst others. After acting in several moderately successful movies, he played John F. Kennedy in the HBO miniseries "JFK: Reckless Youth." Who is this actor, who finally made a huge impact on the television scene by portraying Dr. Derek Shepherd on "Grey's Anatomy"?

Answer: Patrick Dempsey

Patrick Dempsey's role on "Grey's Anatomy" vaulted him into stardom in both television and movies. For the show, he earned two consecutive Golden Globe nominations in 2006 and 2007 for Best Actor in a Drama Series, and three consecutive nominations at the SAG Awards for Best Ensemble Performance in a Drama Series from 2006-2008, including a win in 2007. Thanks to his new fame he earned leading roles in the movies "Enchanted" and "Made of Honor." 10. 1977 - This English actor's career was catapulted ahead thanks mostly to roles in two major trilogies. He will long be remembered for portraying Legolas Greenleaf in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and Will Turner in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy. Who is this man, nominated for both Best Actor at the National Movie Awards and Worst Supporting Actor at the Razzies for "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"?

Answer: Orlando Bloom

Orlando Bloom had small roles in the 1997 movie "Wilde" and in two TV shows before entering the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Two days after graduating, he was cast as Legolas Greenleaf in "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." Soon after, he played Blackburn in "Black Hawk Down," before continuing the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Before the final movie ("The Return of the King") came out, Bloom finished "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl," where he played what was supposed to be the lead role of the trilogy (it can be debated that Johnny Depp took that honor by playing Captain Jack Sparrow).

He also starred as Paris in the 2004 movie "Troy" alongside Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Sean Bean, Diane Kruger, and Peter O'Toole. Bloom, like Patrick Dempsey (born exactly eleven years earlier), has dyslexia.
