Answer: Ottoman

The star and crescent in different forms has been used for many centuries by different cultures however it is only relatively recently that it has been interpreted as a symbol of Islam. The Ottoman Empire first used it in a flag for their navy in 1793 and the Turkish flag can trace its roots to a later Ottoman flag.
