Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the husband of Sarah and the father of Isaac?

Answer: Abraham

Abraham, originally known as Abram, was the husband of Sarah and the father of Isaac. Along with Isaac and Jacob, Abraham was one of the three patriarchs of the Israelite nation.

According to Genesis 17:17, Abraham was one hundred years old and Sarah was ninety years old when Isaac was born. The couple had been childless but things changed dramatically when God announced He had big plans for Abraham and Sarah.
2. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer to this question: What was the name of the man who was prevented from carrying out his evil plan to kill all the Jews in Persia?

Answer: Haman

Haman had a diabolical plan to kill all the Jews in the Persian empire that was ruled by Ahasuerus, known in the NIV as Xerxes. According to Esther 1:1, the empire consisted of one hundred and twenty-seven provinces, stretching from India in the east to Ethiopia in the west.

However, Haman was prevented from carrying out his plan for mass genocide thanks to the joint effort of Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai.
3. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer for the missing word from Luke 2:7 in the NKJV: "And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a ______, because there was no room for them in the inn."

Answer: manger

The missing word from Luke 2:7 in the NKJV is 'manger'. The verse, of course, is in reference to the birth of Jesus. According to Luke, there was no room at the inn for Joseph and Mary and when Jesus was born He was placed in a manger. A manager is an eating trough usually used to hold food for farm animals.

Scripture goes on to tell of nearby shepherds being visited by an angel who proclaimed: "I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

Immediately after this, a multitude of heavenly host appeared in the sky proclaiming, "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
4. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start answer to this question: What was the name of the district where Jesus healed two demon-possessed men who lived in tombs, as per Matthew 8:28 (NKJV)? (The NIV uses a different spelling.)

Answer: Gergesenes

Matthew 8:28 tells of Jesus healing two demon-possessed men at Gergesenes. (The NIV uses the placename Gadarenes rather than Gergesenes.) According to Wikipedia, Gergesenes was on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee.

Scripture tells of Christ driving out the demons from the two men and "the whole city" coming out to meet Him.
5. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer for the missing word from Matthew 13:31-32 in the NKJV: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and ______ in its branches."

Answer: nest

The missing word from Matthew 13:31-32 in the NKJV is 'nest'. (Rather than nest, the NIV states "birds come and perch in its branches.")

Scripture quotes Jesus telling thirty-nine different parables and the Parable of the Mustard Seed is one of the shortest, consisting of only two verses. However, following this is the Parable of the Leaven and it consists of only one verse. See Matthew 13:33 for details.
6. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer for the missing word from Luke 16:15 in the NKJV which quotes Jesus addressing the Pharisees: "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly _________ among men is an abomination in the sight of God."

Answer: esteemed

The missing word from Luke 16:15 in the NKJV is 'esteemed'. (Rather than use the word 'esteemed' the NIV makes reference to 'what men regard highly'.)

The verse is part of a passage in which Jesus denounces the Pharisees as they had been deriding His teachings.

Immediately after denouncing the Pharisees, Scripture states Jesus told the people the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus.

For more details, see Luke 16:14-31.
7. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer to the missing word from Psalm 1:2 in the NKJV: "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he ___________ day and night."

Answer: meditates

The missing word from Psalm 1:2 in the NKJHV is 'meditates'. Psalm 1 is one of the shorter Psalms, consisting of only six verses. The chapter is about the way of the righteous and the end of the ungodly. Unfortunately, it is not known for certain who wrote Psalm 1 as the name of the author is not attached to it.
8. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer to the missing word from 2 Corinthians 3:14 in the NKJV: "But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old ___________, because the veil is taken away in Christ."

Answer: Testament

The missing word from 2 Corinthians 3:14 in the NKJV is 'Testament'. (Rather than Old Testament, the NIV uses the term 'old covenant'.) The verse is part of a passage extolling the glory of the new covenant.

For more details, see 2 Corinthians 3:7-18,

2 Corinthians, similar to 1 Corinthians, was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to members of the early church in Corinth. In total, Paul is credited with writing thirteen of the twenty-seven books in the New Testament.
9. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer to the missing word from Hebrews 9:12 in the NKJV: "Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He ___________ the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption."

Answer: entered

'Entered' is the correct answer. (The KJV and the NIV also use the same word.) The verse is part of passage telling of the heavenly sanctuary.

To put the verse in context, here's how Hebrews 9:11-12 reads in the NKJV: "But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption."

The chapter goes on to explain the 'Mediator's' death was necessary and the greatness of Christ's sacrifice.
10. Now take the last three letters of your answer to the previous question to start the answer to the missing word from Romans 3:23-24 in the NKJV: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the ___________ that is in Christ Jesus."

Answer: redemption

The missing word from Romans 3:23-24 is 'redemption'. (The word 'redemption' also appears in the same verse in the KJV and the NIV.)

The verse is part of a passage which explains all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and God's righteousness is through faith.

Romans was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. Some people refer to Romans as "the bull's eye" of the Bible when it comes to faith and salvation as well as Christian living.
