Question 1 of 10
1. Welcome! The first portion of the food's stay will begin at the Mouth Lobby. Here the food will be masticated into small, fun-size pieces to begin its fun ride. Woo, it is beginning to fall down into a long tunnel. There are two tubes but luckily, one of them shuts off and the food is travelling down the other one, called Oesophagus Lane. What was the little flap concealing behind it? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. At the end of Oesophagus Lane you will find a large room, Stomach Saloon. The food will go for a heavenly cruise (perhaps with a loved one, or the Your Body complementary food chunks) in the lovely stomach juices. Now the food will be turned into a wonderful substance called 'chyme' to ready it for the future stays at different segments of Your Body Hotel. Which of these descriptions better defines chyme? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Yee-ha! After the stomach it's time for a long ride in a narrow tunnel, also known as the Small Intestine Way. Here the food will travel down in comfort first in the Duodenum Sector and then the Jejunum Heaven! There is also another part of Small Intestine Way it will need to visit (here it will be able to purchase 'I Heart Small Intestine' T-shirts and Duodenum bobble heads at the Gift Shop!). What is the name of the other segment of Small Intestine Way? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. The next part of the food's stay is in a roomier place, it is the Large Intestine Space. Here is where the food begins to transform into that delightful substance called faeces! The Large Intestine Space is made up of the colon, which has four parts. The first three, and the largest, are Ascending Colon Highway, Transverse Colon Pleasure and Descending Colon Triumph. Which is the fourth, and last colon? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. It is the food's turn to exit the rectum. The last couple just went out the little tunnel, looking pleased but a little mournful that their time had come to leave. The food sees a little light outside as you move forward to leave Your Body Hotel. It is finally squeezed out, it is not easy, Your Body Hotel seems to be using its 'muscles' to push it out. The food finds itself a little stuck. Where is it stuck right now? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. The part of the food that has no benefits for the Your Body Hotel has left us, but its kind donations are preparing for their dispersion. The nutrients that were once inside the food are now travelling to a body organ, also known as the 'Your Body Hotel Donation Dispersal and Aiding Department'. What is this sharer of nutrients called to the boring people outside our hotel?

-No offence.

Answer: (5 letters)
Question 7 of 10
7. Now for the fine print that the Your Body managers 'forgot' to notify the food of before it entered their hotel.

As the food entered Stomach Saloon it was given the false impression that it would be welcomed like old friends. Well, watch out, vacationers! The Stomach Saloon is not all it seems, when it gets upset, watch out for the stomach's angry tantrums where he has been known to ruthlessly hurl food out of its 'saloon', giving the food no refund whatsoever as it flows out Mouth Lobby in a rather less graceful way than it came in! What is Stomach Saloon doing right now?
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Sometimes, Your Body Hotel's digestive system will decide to stop allowing visitors exitting from the place (the food should be relieved, shouldn't it?). This is known as constipation. It happens when whilst the food is having a fun time in the large intestine, Large Intestine Space gets greedy and it absorbs too much of the food's water, making it into a harder than preferable piece of faeces. Which of these is NOT a cause of why this might happen? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. In the Mouth Lobby, when food remains, blood and/or saliva are broken down, this causes something nasty that can make the food's stay at Your Body a bad experience. What happens when the putrefaction (breaking down of the food by bacteria in the Mouth Lobby) is going on? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. During the trip at Your Body Hotel, when the food is in Small Intestine Way, it notices that despite what it says on the pamphlet, it's nutrients are not being absorbed! False advertising, it asks? Well, no, there is a malfunction. Which of these is it likely to be? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: The Your Body Windpipe Channel

Digestion begins at the mouth where the food is chewed into smaller pieces by your teeth. Excretions from the salivary glands help break down the food further, the food to go down Oesophagus Lane (called simply the 'oesophagus' by those outside our wonderful hotel)! Muscle contractions down Oesophagus Lane will give the food a brilliant massage as they slither it down into the next part of the digestive system...

Answer: A creamy, white substance

The food that travels down to the Stomach Saloon is turned into chyme with the help of juices, such as gastric and hydrochloric acid, and enzymes, such as pepsin, found in your stomach. This process is useful when the food travels down to other stages in the digestive system, also known to us as its hotel stay.

Answer: Ileum Delight

The small intestine, as it is simply known to those outside our hotel, is made up of three parts. Although these sections in the seven metre long intestine are not physically separate, they do have different jobs. In Duodenum Sector the food is received from the stomach. It is the chyme and acid that you were in before. In this place, the intestine receives bile from the liver through bile ducts and also a few enzymes and chemicals from the pancreas. The digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates takes place in Duodenum Sector.
Jejunum Heaven and Ileum Delight have similar jobs. They make up most of the small intestine. In the Jejunum and Ileum, the intestine has lining with finger-like structures on it called 'villi'. These villi help in finding the good parts in the food that Your Body Hotel needs (otherwise known as nutrients, and thank-you for the kind donations) and separating it. They are broken into parts such as minerals, vitamins, water and other small parts such as glucose and cholesterol.
The nutrients travel to the bloodstream and the liver for further dispersion around the Your Body Hotel. Any parts that have not been digested, along with water and vitamins move on to the next stage in the Your Body tour.

Answer: Sigmoid Colon Segment

The Large Intestine Space is 1.5 metres long and made up of three parts. The large intestine (as it is known to those outside our glorious hotel!) is where water, minerals and vitamins get absorbed.

Here in Large Intestine Space the food will meet our kind staff, Mr Mucus and Mrs Bacteria, residents of Large Intestine Space, who will mix with it to form a delightful substance known as faeces! After the sigmoid colon, at the end of Large Intestine Space, the food will begin the joyful wait at Rectum Check Out where it will wait with all the other satisfied customers until such time comes when it is its turn to leave.

Answer: Anal Canal Exit

It is indeed stuck in Anal Canal Exit, known simply as the anal canal to those who have not been to the Your Body Hotel. This is the escape route for the food. Only the non-nutritious residue comes out, usually into the toilet, though when Your Body Hotel was new, the faeces seemed to end up inside a white, soft nappy quite often.

When the food can squish out into the world, it must remember to activate its breathing apparatus. Toilet water can go up in sudden waves, making it difficult to breathe.

Answer: Liver

The liver, or the 'Your Body Hotel Donation Dispersal and Aiding Department', though it is not actually directly involved in the digestion of the food, it is a vital part of helping this process. Whilst the food's nutritive parts are there, spare a thought for the poor liver who performs over 700 jobs including producing bile and dispersing nutrients! What a busy one! Whilst the food was in Duodenum Sector, the Your Body Hotel Donation Dispersal and Aiding Department was busy creating the greeny-white liquid called bile that would help it be digested. Now, even after the food have left, the liver is busy sharing out all its 'good parts' to the Your Body Hotel cells. Poor Your Body Hotel Donation Dispersal and Aiding Department!

Answer: Vomiting

Usually if Your Body Hotel is suffering from a virus or some other sort of illness, it's Stomach Saloon is where the food will be chucked out. Vomiting is the Your Body Hotel's way of ejecting food back out when we are in difficult circumstances. It's not that we don't want it! Just not now... Come back food, though!

Answer: Your Body Hotel sleeping on its tummy too often

Constipation, although rather annoying and sometimes painful for Your Body Hotel, is not usually serious. When Your Body Hotel is constipated, there is not enough bowel movement going on. The faeces has spent and increased amount of time in Large Intestine Space and has become dry and hard, making it harder to excrete.

Constipation is a symptom, not a disease, but it can be cured. Cures include iron supplements, more fibre in your diet, regular excercise and eating some fruits, such as plums can also speed up your digestion.
9. In the Mouth Lobby, when food remains, blood and/or saliva are broken down, this causes something nasty that can make the food's stay at Your Body a bad experience. What happens when the putrefaction (breaking down of the food by bacteria in the Mouth Lobby) is going on?

Answer: Halitosis (bad breath)

Halitosis is the 'fancy' name for bad breath. Although most people have bad breath from time to time, humans affected by halitosis can sometimes have it severely, so that it affects their normal life.

The name 'gingivitis' comes from the fancy word for gum, 'gingiva'. A person affected by gingivitis will have inflamed gums, and it is usually caused by build-up of plaque. Ginigivitis is curable, and is prevented by regular tooth-brushing and cleaning of the Mouth Lobby.

Tonsillitis is when the host's tonsils become red and swollen. The tonsils (in case all you foods out there want to check them out during your stay) are located towards the back of Mouth Lobby.

Laryngopharyngitis, although it may sound like a made up name, is the inflammation of the Larynx Corner and Pharynx Station.
10. During the trip at Your Body Hotel, when the food is in Small Intestine Way, it notices that despite what it says on the pamphlet, it's nutrients are not being absorbed! False advertising, it asks? Well, no, there is a malfunction. Which of these is it likely to be?

Answer: Celiac Disease

Celiac disease affects Small Intestine Way and disrupts the absorption of nutrients. People suffering from celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, and special care must be taken with their diet.

Flatulence is more commonly known as 'farting' and happens in the bowel.
