1. What was the score in the final set of the Philippoussis - Ferrero match, the deciding rubber in the Davis Cup Final?

Answer: 6-0

Philippoussis won the first two sets 7-5 6-3 then fell in a heap in the next two sets. losing 1-6 2-6. He had an injury time out after losing the fourth set and looked gone. However, despite suffering from a torn chest muscle, "Scud" came through to seal the Davis Cup for Australia with a 6-0 whitewash in the 5th set.
2. Philippoussis won more points than Ferrero in their match.

Answer: False

Despite losing the match and the final set 6-0, Ferrero actually won more points 140-134, mainly due to his dominance of the third and fourth sets which he won 6-2 6-1.
3. Who was the only player to win a rubber for Spain in the final?

Answer: Carlos Moya

Moya defeated Philippoussis in the second rubber in 4 sets, 6-4 6-4 4-6 7-6. Ferrero lost both matches in five sets and Corretja-Lopez were thrashed in the doubles, 6-3 6-1 6-3.

Answer: No

While dead rubbers were played during other Australian ties in 2003, organisers decided to cancel the fifth rubber due to the length of the 4th rubber and to allow for the presentation of the cup.

Federer looked set to square the tie at 2-2 when he led 2 sets to love against Hewitt but the Aussie came back from the dead to win the last three sets and secure a place in the final for Australia.

Answer: Great Britain

After both Henman and Rusedski were injured before the tie, Great Britain had to field a team of unknowns against the might of Australia's world number 1 Hewitt and the big serving Philippoussis. Australia won the tie in Sydney 4-1 (the last dead rubber was played by doubles specialist Woodbridge, who lost to Bogdanovic).

In both the semi final and final Lleyton Hewitt won decisive rubbers against Federer and Ferrero. He trailed Federer 2 sets to love and a break before fighting back to win and he trailed Ferrero 2 sets to 1 in the opening rubber of the final.

Answer: Melbourne

Melbourne Park of course is the home of tennis in Australia, hosting the Australian Open every year. The semi final was played on the usual surface Rebound Ace but a grass court was laid to play against Spain in the final.

Answer: Hewitt and Arthurs

Woodbridge was undefeated in doubles but lost/retired in two dead rubbers against Bogdanovic and Kratochvil. Arthurs won two dead rubbers and three doubles (Hewitt partnered Woodbridge against great Britain). Philippoussis lost to Moya and Federer.
