Answer: He was a Seventh Day Adventist and believed the World would end at the turn of the millenium

The world in fact did not end, and Carlos returned to football in 2000 before seeing out his career in his native Argentina.

This was a preseason charity event in 2000. The injury forced Poom to miss Derby County's opening game of the season.
