However, he was never been able to hold down a regular place in the Leicester side, with the likes of Izzet and Lennon ahead of him and joined AEK in 2000.

Dellas plays easily in three positions as a libero, a stopper and a midfielder-defender. He is also a key member of the Under-23 Greek team. He signed for AEK in 1999, before which he played for Panserraikos, Aris Thessalonikis and Sheffield United. Dellas has bull-like strength and is very commanding at the back.

Although, a defender he is very good with the ball at his feet and thanks to his height he is also unbeatable in the air. He is renowned for scoring directly from free-kicks, as well as the strength of his shooting. Perugia had signed Dellas on a one-year contract from AEK Athens to ensure he would make the grade in Serie A before tying him to a longer-term deal.

The robust defender, who has played for the Greek national team, can play libero, central defender or defensive midfielder. His integration was no problem, because he grew up in Germany near Stuttgart and even speaks with a Swabian accent. Showed some impressive form towards the end of the 1999-00 season, although he picked up a reputation for getting sent off. Joined Bolton on loan in March 2002 after being frozen out of the first-team under new boss Falko Gotz.

He was quickly picked up by Hamburg and looked like a Bundesliga regular for most of the 1999-2000 season, before he fell out with HSV coach Frank Pagelsdorf.
