Medwick (allegedly) intentionally spiked Tiger 3rd baseman Marvin Owen while legging out a triple in the 7th game. All heck broke out after that. The following inning, the Commissioner removed Medwick from the game for safety reasons.

Answer: Joe McCarthy

Ex-Yankee McCarthy managed them during this close pennant race between the Yankees, Boston, and Cleveland.
