Sylvain Distin wore the armband for the whole of the 2005-06 season. This was passed on to Richard Dunne for the start of 2006.

Trevor "Tricky" Sinclair opened the scoring on derby day followed by goals by Vassell and Robbie Fowler. Ruud Van Nisterlooy scored for the visitors.
