Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who scored the first goal in Manchester United's 2019-20 home encounter with Arsenal in the Premier League?

Answer: Scott McTominay

McTominay latched onto Rashford's pass and fired the ball into the roof of the net just before half time. The game ended 1-1; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's equalizer was ruled out but was later deemed onside and VAR awarded the goal, with Harry Maguire playing the striker on. The game was dominated by United but both sides came out with a point.
2. There was a lot of talk in January about a new signing, and several were made. Which of these players did Manchester United NOT sign in the January 2020 transfer window?

Answer: Daniel James

Fernandes and Ighalo both became fan favourites after several goals each, while Nathan Bishop was a more unknown signing as a backup 'keeper. Daniel James was acquired in the summer of 2019.
3. Before suffering a double stress fracture in his back during the 2019-20 season, which player led the charge as Manchester United's top goalscorer?

Answer: Marcus Rashford

Rashford came on against Wolves in the FA cup but had to be subbed off just seven minutes later with a back injury, though he scored 14 goals for United in that time. Rashford was also United's designated both spot-kick and free kick taker, before January signing Bruno Fernandes arrived at the club and took over both roles.
4. What were the results of the two Manchester derbies in the Premier League in season 2019/20? (United on the left, City on the right)

Answer: 2-1 away, 2-0 home

The Reds took a two goal lead at half time at the Etihad thanks to a Marcus Rashford penalty and Anthony Martial's low finish on his weaker foot from outside the box. City came back with Otamendi's header but couldn't keep their momentum going. At Old Trafford, Anthony Martial volleyed in Fernandes' chip over the wall at the near post to fire United into the lead, and Scott McTominay latched onto Ederson's loose pass to fire it home into the centre of the net in the 96th minute and ensure United a victory.
5. What was United's first loss of the 2019-20 season in the Premier League?

Answer: Crystal Palace, at home

Though Daniel James scored a stunning equaliser right before stoppage time after Jordan Ayew slipped the ball past David de Gea in the first half, Patrick van Aanholt slashed an effort with his left foot at the near post and de Gea could not keep it out, meaning United had suffered their first defeat of the season and their first ever defeat at Old Trafford in "Fergie Time."
6. What colours did United play in, home, away, and third, respectively?

Answer: Red, Beige, and Black

United's signature kit was the home red one. The beige kit was a new one to United fans and the third kit, also known as the "Black Country" kit, was a familiar tone for older fans.
7. Which player, after several successful seasons at United, left for Inter Milan in January 2020?

Answer: Ashley Young

Ashley Young moved away from the United fans after several great seasons, including winning several trophies, to reunite with Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku at Inter Milan. Young had taken much stick from the fans because of his performances, but he still appreciated the fans via a twitter message.
8. Who scored two goals against United in 2019-20, both home and away?

Answer: Matty Longstaff

Matty Longstaff scored the first and only goal at St. James' park against United, then scored against them again to open the scoring at Old Trafford, despite United coming back with a dominant performance and sealing a 4-1 victory thanks to goals from Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, and Marcus Rashford.
9. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that someone would return to Old Trafford in the 2020-21 season and "prove the fans wrong". Who?

Answer: Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez was loaned out to Inter Milan, but only for a year. Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young both went to Inter on a permanent basis, while Daniel James was a very new signing.
10. Why was Manchester United's victory at Carrow Road in 2020 disappointing?

Answer: Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both missed penalties.

Tim Krul first saved Rashford's penalty, then Martial's, despite a 3-1 victory for United. Krul was known for his spot-kick stopping abilities, having previously played for the Netherlands. He says that he tapes notes on the penalty takers onto his water bottle and talks to the taker and analyzes him before the kick.
11. Which young prospect became the heart and soul of United's first team's right wing in 2019-20?

Answer: Mason Greenwood

Greenwood came on as a substitute in several games and started in many as well, scoring 12 goals across all competitions for United before the season was postponed. Marcus Rashford plays on the left and Chong usually plays in the PL2 games, while Hudson-Odoi represents Chelsea.
12. These players were brought in during the 2019 summer to fill in as a centerback and rightback, respectively.

Answer: Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Brandon Williams was a young prospect who played as a leftback in several games, and Victor Lindelof was acquired previously. Harry Maguire, interestingly enough, broke the record for the world's most expensive defender.
13. Which Championship side did Daniel James represent before Manchester United bought him in 2019?

Answer: Swansea City

Daniel James was bought from Swansea to help out on United's right wing, though Mason Greenwood provided rough competition for that spot. James was brought in with the help of previous United legend Ryan Giggs by association with the Welsh national team. James was known for his blistering pace and finishing abilities.
14. Who did Mason Greenwood overcome as fastest individual sprinter during a game with his 37.6km/h sprint against Everton at Goodison Park?

Answer: Fred (Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos)

Fred was the surprising player who clocked United's fastest individual speed before Greenwood, at Old Trafford with a 37.29km/h run. Rashford and James both bagged several fastest speeds per game, but came in behind both Fred and Greenwood individually.
15. Who was on the scoresheet against Linzer ASK in the game behind closed doors; in scoring order?

Answer: Ighalo, James, Mata, Greenwood, and Pereira

Five efforts were put into the back of the net, and United kept another clean sheet away from home with a 5-0 thrashing of the Austrian side. Ighalo's goal later was named goal of the month for March, with the Nigerian juggling the ball before unleashing a ferocious strike into the top left corner of the net.
16. Which playmakers did Manchester United have on their radar for the January window but did not buy?

Answer: Jack Grealish and James Maddison

Grealish and Maddison are the only set of playmakers, as Koulibaly is a center-back, Cavani is a striker, and Sancho is a winger. Interest in Grealish was supposedly cooled after the Villa talisman crashed his car and broke quarantine practices, while Solskjaer needed a leader off the pitch as well.
17. Which prolific Manchester City winger did Aaron Wan-Bissaka "keep in his pocket" both home and away in 2019-20?

Answer: Raheem Sterling

Wan-Bissaka kept it tight against Sterling both home and away, though he only kept a clean sheet at Old Trafford because of a Nicolas Otamendi goal at the Etihad. Hailed as 'the best one-on-one defender in the world' by United legend and pundit Rio Ferdinand, Wan-Bissaka was a brilliant addition from Crystal Palace during the summer of 2019.
18. Who helped Bruno Fernandes settle in the most at Manchester United in 2019-20?

Answer: Diogo Dalot

Fernandes naturally linked up with another Portuguese player, Dalot, who constantly kept him comfortable while finding a house and meeting his new teammates. Naturally, others joined in like Juan Mata, but Fernandes claimed that Dalot was his greatest help as he offered him a place to stay, drove him to training, and provided wonderful accommodations after Fernandes moved from Portugal.
19. Which player had an injury-prone season?

Answer: Paul Pogba

Pogba was injured early on in the season but came back to play against Watford in United's 2-0 loss at Vicarage road. Pogba was injured during the game again, however, meaning that he only played 8 games over the course of the season, though many considered him United' best player.
20. What was United's record in the Premier League when the season was postponed in March 2020? (W-D-L)

Answer: 12-9-8

United defeated 12 teams, drew 9, and lost to only Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Watford, Burnley, West Ham United and Arsenal. Interestingly enough, United struggled against lower-level teams while they consistently outperformed many top clubs, beating Chelsea and Manchester City three times before the season was postponed.
21. What position did Andreas Pereira mainly operate in before the announcement of Manchester United's biggest January 2020 signing?

Answer: Central attacking midfielder

Pereira played in the number 10 role for United, but wasn't as creative as Solskjaer expected and Bruno Fernandes came in January to spark the team into life once again. Pereira didn't have the creativity that Fernandes did, though he did score against Brighton after a deflection and provided several assists during the course of the season.
22. Which feat did Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Nuno Esperito Santo both achieve this season which only Antonio Conte had previously achieved?

Answer: Defeated Pep Guardiola's Manchester City twice in the premier league.

Wolves defeated City 2-0 and 3-2, while United defeated them 2-1 and 2-0.
23. Until Watford's display on February 29, what feat did only United achieve in the league?

Answer: Took points off of Liverpool

United were the only side to make Liverpool drop points. United took the lead in the first half at Old Trafford through Marcus Rashford poking home Daniel James' cross, but Adam Lallana was on hand to score just before stoppage time and deny United an arguably deserved victory. Watford soundly defeated Liverpool at Vicarage Road 3-0, with goals from Ismailla Sarr (2) and Troy Deeney.
24. Which of United's players was on the Fantasy Premier League overall best starting 11 after at least eight weeks of play?

Answer: Marcus Rashford

Rashford was United's leading goalscorer in all competitions until his injury, and combined with assists was FPL's top forward behind Jamie Vardy for quite some time. Later, Rashford was overtaken by players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Arsenal who had scored against United in the clubs' first tie this season and Wolves' marksman Raul Jimenez.
25. What was United's last game before the season was postponed in March 2020?

Answer: LASK in the Europa League

City in the Premier league was United's last Premier League game, but their last game was a 5-0 thrashing of LASK away from home behind closed doors. Though the season was postponed, this was a happy note for some fans because Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba had time to recover from their injuries.
