Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did the Buccaneers play on opening day in 2008?

Answer: New Orleans

They lost a tight game to Drew Brees and the Saints 24-20 and to add insult to injury, Jeff Garcia left with a calf injury.
2. What was the final record of the Buccaneers in 2008?

Answer: 9-7

9-7 does not sound bad unless you were 9-3 and then collapsed. That was especially cruel as they dropped four in a row from being the #2 seed, to out of the playoffs altogether. They matched their record from 2007 of 9-7 where they had lost their last two regular season games.

However, they had clinched the division and decided to test the rest vs. rust theory. In 2008, they just collapsed.
3. Which coach left the Buccaneers after the 2008 season to go to the Tennessee Volunteers?

Answer: Monte Kiffin

The Buccaneers were at 9-3 and playing great defense when this news broke. It was the beginning of a four-game losing streak which kept them out of the playoffs. They barely showed up on defense and ended up at 9-7.
4. The Buccaneers were swept by every team in the AFC West.

Answer: false

The Buccaneers, who imploded at the end of the year lost to Oakland on the final day. They also lost an early tight game in Denver as well, 13-10. They lost to the San Diego Chargers on the second to last game of the season 41-24. However, they beat the Kansas City Chiefs in a come back win 30-27, which kept them from getting swept by the AFC West.
5. Jeff Garcia got hurt with a calf muscle allegedly after the first game of the season. Who played the next three games in 2008?

Answer: Brian Griese

Brian Griese had been a good player record wise with the Buccaneers. By 2008, he had had two stints of duty with them. He beat Atlanta in the opener at Raymond James in Week 2 24-9, and then beat the team that he played for in 2007, Chicago, by a 27-24 score in overtime.

He then followed up with a home win over the Packers 30-21. Garcia took back over for him in a loss to the Denver Broncos on the road, 16-13.
6. How many touchdowns on the ground did they give up to the 2008 Carolina Panthers in the two games they played them?

Answer: 4

In the first game which occurred in Tampa, there were none, and Tampa Bay won 27-3. However, in the game on a Monday night later in the year in Carolina, they gave up 4 rushing touchdowns as 299 yards were run all over them. They had only let up 1 rushing touchdown before that for the season.
7. Who was not a running back for Tampa Bay in 2008?

Answer: Mike Alstott

Mike Alstott was drafted and retired a Buccaneer. He did not play a game in the 2007 season and retired right before the 2008 season. He had bulging discs in his neck and had many doctors recommending him to retire.
8. Which team was not amongst Tampa Bay's season-ending collapse game during their last 4 games?

Answer: Seattle at home

The Buccaneers were 9-3 and were looking like a shoe in to make the playoffs before collapsing and losing their final four games. Then they were in Carolina for a Monday night game and got stomped 38-23. They lost their next three to find themselves out of the playoffs.

The only game of the four listed that was not mired in the four-game losing streak was Seattle at home which they beat earlier in the season, 20-10 on a Sunday night. This losing streak cost coach John Gruden his job as well as Bruce Allen, the GM.
9. Brad Johnson beat the Buccaneers in the 2008 season.

Answer: True

The Dallas Cowboys, who were in mess of their own, still managed to win without their starter, Tony Romo, and beat the Buccaneers 13-9. However, Brad did win the Buccaneers a Super Bowl back in the 2002 season.
10. Who was not a wide receiver for the Buccaneers during the 2008 season?

Answer: Reidel Anthony

Reidel was an old school receiver but had been gone for a while. The other three were on the roster and had playing time, but Antonio Bryant had a breakout season and led the Buccaneers in catches (83), yards (1248) and touchdowns (7).
