Answer: Bjorn Phau

German lucky loser, Bjorn Phau participated in the event as a replacement for the fifth-seeded Russian and 2000 U.S. Open champion, Marat Safin. Phau went on to upset fellow German, Alexander Popp, before being knocked out in the second round to the eventual Finnish quarter-finalist, Jarkko Nieminen.

Answer: 6

Of these six qualifiers who made it to the second round, only one qualified to the third round. This man was the 2001 Australian Open runner-up, Arnaud Clement. On the way, he overcame Spanish star Juan Carlos Ferrero and then Great Britain's qualifier, Andrew Murray.

Answer: Jiri Novak

The Czech star was meant to have been meeting Chilean Nicolas Massu for a place in the third round. Romania's Victor Hanescu retired in his match against Spanish Albert Montanes. Marat Safin withdrew from the tournament before it commenced.
