Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What famously happened to Ron Atkinson in his first game in charge of Nottingham Forest?

Answer: He stepped into the wrong dugout

Ron Atkinson stepped into the Arsenal dugout by accident, had his photograph taken and only realised when being told by one of the bemused Arsenal subtitutes.
2. Eric Cantona infamously kung-fu kicked an opposition fan. Which team was the victim a fan of?

Answer: Crystal Palace

Eric lashed out after being sent off at Selhurst Park. He was then banned by Manchester United, then the FA for nine months and fined.
3. The famous words "I would love it" will never be forgotten by the people who watched it that famous night. Which manager had wound up Kevin Keegan though?

Answer: Sir Alex Ferguson

The pressure of a Premiership title race with Alex Ferguson's Manchester United seemed too much for Kevin Keegan and when Ferguson made some scandalous comments about him and other footballers (Stuart Pearce) Keegan lost it. Sir Alex is said to be the master of the mind games. It certainly worked with 'King Kev'.
4. In 2005, Liverpool completed one of the greatest comebacks ever. Thye were 3-0 down at half time in the Champions League final to AC Milan, regarded by many as one of the best teams in the world, Liverpool fought back and took Milan to penalties and won the trophy. Who was playing goalkeeper that famous night in Istanbul?

Answer: Jerzy Dudek

Dudek pulled off some fine saves throughout the match but will be remembered for his antics when attempting, and succeeding, in putting the opposition players off when taking their penalties.
5. Brian Clough and Peter Taylor were the perfect double act. Brian took him to every club he worked at. Brian was the motivator and Peter was the tactician. That friendship took a turn for the worse when Peter Taylor became the manager of Derby County in the mid eighties, just one year after telling Brian he was retiring. Peter Taylor signed one of Clough's biggest assets when Clough was on holiday. Who was this?

Answer: John Robertson

Because of this, Brian never spoke to Peter again. Peter died in 1990. Clough said he regretted their dispute and Peter's life ending when they weren't on speaking terms.
6. When Chelsea beat Arsenal in the Champions League quarter final in 2004, what did a tearful Claudio Ranieri say?

Answer: I am a crazy man

Claudio knew deep down his job was somebody else's in the next season. Rumours were rife throughout that season that he was going to be replaced. Beating Arsenal was one last achievement for Claudio who was still held in very high regard at Stamford Bridge after his departure.
7. Bobby Charlton scored a hat-trick in the 1966 World Cup final as England defeated West Germany 4-2.

Answer: False

It was Geoff Hurst. His second goal caused much controversy. People have argued whether the ball had actually crossed the line or not. Using state of the art technology, it was later said that the ball "probably didn't cross the line."
8. Which man scored an own goal in the 1991 FA Cup final in extra time to hand the trophy to Tottenham Hotspur?

Answer: Des Walker

Des Walker repeated his own goal in 2003, when he headed in an almost identical own goal in the Championship playoff semi-final 2nd leg in extra time, between Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. It was Des' second spell at Forest, and the own goal handed Sheffield United a place in the final and a shot at promotion to the Premiership (Wolves beat Sheffield United in the final).
9. Who scored the winning goal for Everton in an FA Cup final againt Manchester United in 1995?

Answer: Paul Rideout

This went down as a major FA Cup final shock. Many expected Manchester United to win the game, especially as they were the dominant force in English football at the time.
10. Who has the 'Hand Of God'?

Answer: Diego Maradona

Diego Maradona punched the ball over England goalkeeper Peter Shilton in a 1986 World Cup match. England, because of that goal, were eliminated from the competition.
