The Bruins started their season on October 7, 2008 with a 5-4 win over the Avalanche. David Krejci scored the game-winner in the third period.

The Bruins lost 4-3 in a shootout to Montreal on October 15th. Montreal's Alex Tanguay scored in the shootout to win the game for the Habs.
