Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. With so much buzz behind the show "Glee", Jimmy Fallon opened the 2010 Emmy Awards with a number featuring the "Glee" cast. But he also invited other celebrities you wouldn't expect to be involved. Who of these people was NOT involved in the opening number?

Answer: Neil Patrick Harris of "How I Met Your Mother"

Neil Patrick Harris had won an Emmy for his stellar guest appearance on "Glee" where he joined Matthew Morrison in a scorching version of Aerosmith's "Dream On". But he did not appear in this opening song-and-dance number, a combination of taped and live performance.
2. While on the subject of this 2010 Emmy opening number, what Bruce Springsteen song did Jimmy Fallon and the gang sing?

Answer: Born to Run

Complete with Jimmy Fallon dressing in the classic Springsteen look, with white T-Shirt and red Farmer cap in the back pocket, this performance put the Emmy show on a high point right from the start. Early ratings report that the show was the highest rated in five years.
3. Jimmy Fallon's early guitar-accompanied monologue during the 2010 Emmys took a potshot at a fellow celebrity by mentioning that Jimmy "came to Los Angeles from New York to host the Emmys...what could go wrong?" They then showed the brunt of the joke. Who was this?

Answer: Conan O'Brien

Conan O'Brien had a difficult year. He first gets promised the coveted "Tonight Show" gig, then has the rug pulled out from under him by Jay Leno and NBC when the prime time 10pm/9pm experiment flopped. He will come back soon on TNT with his own talk show, so he may land on his feet. Not to mention the $20 million dollar buyout.
4. In a taped skit during the 2010 Emmy Awards featuring the "Modern Family" cast, who was suggested will join the cast for the second season in September 2010, much to the delight of female members of the cast?

Answer: George Clooney

Clooney actually appeared in this sketch, getting nearly molested by Sofia Vergara, and then appearing in bed with cast members Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet who play a gay couple. "Modern Family" would go on to win the Emmy for Best Comedy.
5. Jimmy Fallon did fine impressions of three musical acts during the 2010 Emmys in paying tribute to three shows that ended in 2010. Which was NOT one of his impersonations?

Answer: Aerosmith

The three shows to fall by the wayside were "24", "Lost" and "Law and Order". Jimmy has proven to be quite the impressionist, both with this gig and some spot-on impersonations of fellow comedians on "America's Got Talent" on August 25, 2010.
6. What did Ricky Gervais have handed out to the audience during his award announcement at the 2010 Emmy Awards?

Answer: Beer

He noted that the "Golden Globe Awards you can drink at the tables, and there's no drinking at the Emmys. So he demanded that be changed by handing out bottles of beer. Although with the ACE Awards falling by the wayside due to cable channels dominating the Emmys anyway, the leftover awards would be a good gag.
7. Who received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 2010 Emmy Awards?

Answer: George Clooney

For a man who hasn't been involved with TV since 1999, Clooney was all over this Emmy telecast. He was presented the award by Juliana Margulies his cast partner from NBC's "ER". He asked that more celebrities make efforts to continue the generosity toward a cause long after the cameras have left.
8. Who sang an original song over the annual 2010 Emmy Awards "In Memoriam" segment?

Answer: Jewel

The song, "Shape of You", went unrecorded before this broadcast, but its positive reception may change that. She stated before she sang that she wrote it for a friend of hers who died from cancer.

Some of the television celebrities lost this past season in 2009 and 2010 were Gary Coleman, Dennis Hopper, and Rue McClanahan.
9. During the 2010 Emmy Awards, the subject of a Made-For-TV movie was asked by award winners no less than five times during the broadcast to stand up. Who was this person?

Answer: Temple Grandin

Temple Grandin is a professor at Colorado State University, and best selling author. She has high functioning autism, and is an advocate for autism. The HBO film won seven Emmys, and many of the award winners looked for Temple, and she gladly stood up and waved to the crowd. In a night filled with stars she may have been the most admired person that night.

Jack Kevorkian did receive one call-out by Al Pacino, the man who played him on another HBO movie, when Pacino accepted the award for Best actor in a Made-for TV movie. In my opinion it was a formality that Al would win this Best Actor Emmy, as the performance was so true it was easy to forget you were watching Pacino.
10. To close the 2010 Emmy show out, Jimmy Fallon facetiously announced that the after party was going to be located where?

Answer: Betty White's house

He then popped a large bottle of champagne, celebrated the night victory lane style, and the credits rolled. I'm not sure how much of the celebration was for personal reasons, but I think he knew he hit it out of the park.
