Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which country singer coached the contestants that week (country week)?

Answer: Martina McBride

Martina started her career singing country music in 1992. In 2007, Martina's three daughters are Delaney Katharine, Emma Justine, and Ava Rose Kathleen. She has had many famous hits such as "Independence Day" and "Concrete Angel."
2. Phil sang "Where the Blacktop Ends." Who originally recorded that song?

Answer: Keith Urban

The judges were very pleased with Phil's performance. They all agreed that Phil would make a great country singer. Phil is from Jacksonville, Florida.
3. Next up was Jordin Sparks. Which Martina McBride song did she sing?

Answer: "Broken Wing"

Jordin was a little apprehensive about singing Martina's song in front of her, because she wanted to make her proud. Both Martina and the judges enjoyed her performance. Can you believe that Jordin was only seventeen-years-old?
4. Which song did Sanjaya sing?

Answer: "Let's Give Them Something To Talk About"

This song is originally sung by Bonnie Raitt, daughter of John Raitt, the Broadway star. She began her singing and songwriting career in 1971. Although it is a beautiful song, the judges did not like Sanjaya's rendition and I frankly did not like it that much either.
5. Lakisha sang a song recorded by a previous contestant on "American Idol." Who originally recorded the song Lakisha sang?

Answer: Carrie Underwood

She chose to sing "Jesus Take The Wheel." Lakisha has a beautiful voice, but sadly the judges did not enjoy her performance. They felt that she was shouting instead of singing. Lakisha's daughter's name is Brionne and she was her inspiration when singing this song.
6. After Lakisha sang, it was Chris Richardson's turn. Who originally recorded the song he performed?

Answer: Rascal Flatts

Chris Richardson sang "Mayberry" because it reminded him of his southern roots. The judges did not like his performance and thought it was nasally. Then when Chris was talking about the Virginia Tech victims, Simon was having a conversation with Paula and rolled his eyes, and of course the camera caught him rolling his eyes and people thought he was disrespecting the victims.
7. What song did Melinda sing?

Answer: "Trouble is a Woman"

This song was previously recorded by Julia Reeves. This was a pretty new song, so new Martina had never heard it before. The judges loved her performance.
8. Last, but not least, Blake performed. Who originally recorded the song Blake sang?

Answer: Tim McGraw

Blake sang "When the Stars Go Blue" by Tim McGraw. Martina told Blake that Tim McGraw hoped someone would sing this song and Blake said he hoped he did some justice to the song. The judges overall enjoyed his performance.
9. What song did they sing as a group on the results show?

Answer: "I'm Alright"

This song was originally recorded by Jo Dee Messina. "I'm Alright" was written by Phil Vassar, and she had to beg him to let her record the song. She began her career in 1996.
10. Who was eliminated?

Answer: Sanjaya

Sanjaya was born September 10, 1989 and grew up in Seattle, Washington. He auditioned for the show in Seattle with his sister. Both of them made it to Hollywood, but only Sanjaya made the final 24.
