Mac arrives at the guesthouse with orders for Thomas -- he's back in the Navy and has to go to Washington, DC to testify. To make the re-enlistment more appealing, Magnum is given a promotion from Lieutenant to Commander. Of course, he doesn't go and eventually meets up with Michelle (episode: "Memories Are Forever").

Magnum doesn't have a sister -- He was close to his cousin growing up and we meet her during a visit home. Rick's sister (Wendy) is a "kleenex character" -- she's brought on just to get killed off (episode: "Distant Relative"). We don't see much of TC's kids until later in the series (Bryant and Melody).

They live on the mainland with TC's ex-wife. We get to see Higgins's father briefly in the "Deja Vu" episode. No surprise, he was played by John Hillerman.

After trying to convince everyone that Lily must have survived the explosion that killed Michelle and her husband, Thomas has finally resigned himself to the fact that Lily is dead. Then Maggie calls and asks him to meet her at the church. (I think it's the same church where Thomas saw Michelle five seasons earlier.) Out of the shadows, she brings Magnum's daughter.

In a beautiful scene, Magnum hugs Lily tightly and she pats his back in comfort (episode: "Resolutions").

Orville Wright's favorite movie is "Casablanca" and he is chooses to go by "Rick" in honor of Humphrey Bogart's character, Rick Blaine.

Also, the Thomas-Michelle love story closely mirrors the Rick-Ilsa love story in the movie. (Our hero finds the woman he once loved, only to learn that she was married when he knew her and that her husband, thought dead, came back to claim his wife. Our heroine ultimately leaves with the husband, but her true love is our hero.)

We can assume it is a family name. His aunt, Phoebe Sullivan, appears in one episode ("The Aunt Who Came to Dinner").
