That's right. Eric, Jack and Mr. Feeney were the chaperones. Of course Eric and Jack didn't really take it seriously at first. They were dancing and flirting with the girls. All of a sudden, Jack got a surge of responsibility and stood at the door and became in charge. Even more than Mr. Feeney!

2. What did Eric see his dad doing at the check-in counter at the hotel the prom was being held in?

Answer: hugging another woman

Alan was telling the man at the counter and another woman who happened to be standing there that he and his wife were pregnant! The woman was very happy for Alan that she gave him a hug. Eric was coming out of the dance and he saw them hugging, and became very concerned that his father was having an affair.
