Shary Bobbins appears in this episode in a throwback to Mary Poppins. Marge is losing her hair due to stress, so a nanny is employed to make life easier for her. Shary Bobbins cannot help the difficult Simpson family, flies off on her umbrella... straight in to a passing aircraft jet engine!

The Simpson family end up with a dog called Laddie in this episode, thanks to Bart and his fraudulent credit card. He filled in a form in his dogs name and ended up with a credit card in the name of "Santos L Halper". We also discover that the baby with one eyebrow that Maggie dislikes is called Gerald.

Homer creates a bowling team called "Pin Pals" after tricking Mr Burns in to giving him $500. Homer initially tries to raise the money needed by asking Marge to pay for sex with him. This episode was "In Loving Memory To Doris Grau". She had died in December 1995 and was the voice of Lunch Lady Doris.

After a series of unfortunate coincidences, the Simpson kids are put in to foster care with the Flanders family. Lisa says that the Flanders' house is "like our house, but everything has got a creepy Pat Boone-ish quality to it".

Marge becomes a cop and has to arrest Homer for parking across 3 disabled parking bays, and for stealing an officer's cap. Several wonderful quotes come from this episode... Bart - "Wow Mom, I never pictured you as any kind of authority figure"... Homer - "Marge, you being a cop makes you the man! Which makes me the woman, and I have no interest in that, besides occasionally wearing the underwear which, as we discussed, is purely a comfort thing".... and many more!

Bart ends up indicted for fraud after making a false collect call to Australia to discover if the water in the Southern Hemisphere drains clockwise. He is meant to receive a "booting" from the Australian Prime Minister but Bart, as only he would, has other ideas.

He drops his pants to display the words "Don't Tread On Me" across his butt. All hell breaks loose and the Simpson clan flee the country via helicopter to meet the USS Walter Mondale to take them all the way home.

Bart falls in love with Jessica Lovejoy, the daughter of the Reverend. She gets him accused of stealing the collection plate money, but she is the thief. Eventually Lisa tells the congregation who the real criminal was and everyone runs to Jessica's bedroom. The money is found and everyone makes an apology to Bart, who is tied up a la Hannibal Lector.

After the episode "A Streetcar Named Marge" many people from New Orleans complained about a song and its content within the show. Lines such as "New Orleans! Sinking, rotten, vomiting, vile" and "If you want to go to hell you should take a trip, to the Sodom & Gomorrah of the Mississip". To appease the residents, Bart wrote his apology and hopefully everyone was happy.
