Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the frog in "Hector's House"?

Answer: Kiki

I have vague memories of this as I was a bit young! ZaZa was a cat and Hector was a dog (I remember being in love with him) who lived on one side of the fence. Kiki was the nosy frog from next door. My brother-in-law (mine of useless information) informs me that in France "Hector's House" is known as "Le Maison De Tutu". You too are now a mine of useless stuff.
2. What were the names of Tucker's 2 best mates at "Grange Hill"?

Answer: Alan and Benny

Ah, those were the days. "Grange Hill" was like no other programme at that time. I loved it. My claim to fame was that I used to drink in the same pub as the girl who played Trisha and my best friend from school lived 2 doors away from her. I need no confirmation of how sad I am!
3. Do you remember the lunchtime classic "Bod"? What was his Aunt's name?

Answer: Flo

I also had an Aunt Flo (who was aprroximately the same shape as Bod's auntie). The only other member of the animated cast I can remember the name of is Farmer Barley Mow. There was a policeman too though. Then there was the Alberto Frog (and his band) section of the show.

The highlight of this part of the show was guessing which flavour milkshake he'd have! I just couldn't contain the excitement.
4. Complete the title of this lunchtime show: "Mary, Mungo and ....."

Answer: Midge

Mary was a little girl, Mungo her dog and Midge her mouse. She lived in a block of flats and I vividly remember the mouse standing on the dogs nose to press the button in the lift. How cute? Probably not very now.
5. What was the name of the character played by Donna Air in "Byker Grove"?

Answer: Charlie

Not the only famous face to come out of this show. Has anyone ever heard of a duo called Ant and Dec - or as they were formally known PJ and Duncan. I had to have "Byker" videotaped once I started work. It was too good to miss.
6. Who drove "Ivor the Engine"?

Answer: Jones the Steam

And of course Ivor had his own dragon in his boiler (along with some little baby dragons) to keep him steaming along. This was a perfect way to end the evening's viewing before getting down to boring homework. Everyone I know does their own impression of Ivor - here's mine pirrsshhhh-te-kuuuu (repeat to fade).
7. Which Womble was the Womble equivalent to Tommy Walsh (i.e. he was the DIY nut)?

Answer: Tobermory

Tomsk was the really butch keep fit womble, Orinoco was the Womble that was always sleeping and Wellington was the little quiet one. Bless. Uncle Bulgaria was grumpy and Madame Cholet was French. Excellent work on the voices from Bernard Cribbins.
8. What was the name of the family that took in Paddington Bear?

Answer: Brown

Paddington was (and still is) probably one of my top 10 programmes. The voice of (Sir) Michael Hordern has a great deal to do with the Peruvian one's charm. Definitely a classic.
9. What was the name of Sir Basil's wife in "The Herbs"?

Answer: Lady Rosemary

Dill the dog had obviously tripped out on speed as he was forever running in circles singing "I'm Dill The Dog, I'm a Dog called Dill", and then of course there was the very cute and laid back Parsley "I'm a very friendly lion called Parsley". Top notch entertainment then and now.
10. An easy one to end. What was the name of the overweight and slightly dimwitted fairy in "Willo The Wisp"?

Answer: Mavis

Great characters all voiced by the much missed Kenneth Williams. Evil Edna - the witch in the form of a TV was a stroke of genius. If you loved this programme "riotgrrl" has written a brilliant quiz on it under W in the Television section. At the moment I have the top score but I'm sure you can remedy that!
