Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first episode, we meet drag racing driver John Force, and his daughters Brittany, Courtney and Ashley, also drivers. What unusual living situation between John and his wife, Laurie, is demonstrated here?

Answer: Laurie lives in one house on John's property, and John lives in another

When we meet the Forces, John describes the situation as a separation which has still not concluded in a divorce. Laurie lives in the older of the two houses, John in a newer one right next to the beach.
2. What does John describe as more stressful than managing five racing teams?

Answer: When your daughters start dating

John faces many of the dilemmas known to any other parent. He has to make sure his daughters stay dedicated to the team, but he also needs to provide guidance as they become part of the social world.
3. John is shocked when daughter Brittany tells him what news?

Answer: She wants to be a schoolteacher

John dedicates a tremendous amount of time and energy to the racing teams, so he is quite taken aback when Brittany says she won't make a lifelong career out of racing. However, after much debate with Laurie and the daughters, John relents. He says he will be very proud of Brittany as a teacher.
4. Who is John's older brother?

Answer: Louie

John says Louie was generous when they were growing up, even though the family struggled a lot. John's daughters are close to their uncle. In one episode, the whole family plans to celebrate his birthday.
5. Where does John take his daughters in order to teach them about self-control?

Answer: The home where he grew up

John goes back to the humble abode where he used to live with his parents. He wants to teach the daughters about respect and how to control their spending habits. It is a moving scene. The tactic works: shortly afterward, Courtney drives to win her first racing paycheck.
6. In the episode "Getting It Back," what does John do to try to rejuvenate his relationship with Laurie?

Answer: Take her out on a date

The Forces usually go to a little place for coffee, but this time John wants to try something a little more upscale. It's a bittersweet event. In this episode, John also struggles to win a race after a rare defeat.
7. John eats a particular food of which he says, "This is why I've won thirteen championships." What is it?

Answer: Peanut butter

John eats peanut butter by the tablespoon. His daughters joke with him about it, saying he needs to exercise, and they take him to a gym. (John's reference to thirteen championships applies to his competition record at the time of the show's first season.)
8. What event does Ashley dread, in the episode "Passing the Torch"?

Answer: Testing out her father's nitro funny car

In the test run, Ashley must drive at speeds in excess of 300 miles per hour, and go further than 800 feet in five seconds. John explains this will put a pressure of four to five g's (1 g=factor of gravity) on Ashley while she drives. The physical and mental stress are incredible. Thankfully, Ashley is successful.
9. In "Passing the Torch," Ashley mentioned that relatively few women had competed in funny car racing. She named one of those drivers, who was also accomplished in drag racing, as one who set an example for women in motorsports. Who was she?

Answer: Shirley Muldowney

Muldowney began her drag racing career in the 1970s and competed until her retirement in 2003. She won the NHRA Top Fuel dragster championship in 1977, 1980 and 1982. In the 1990s she drove in the IHRA circuit. She was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2004. All the other drivers listed have competed in open-wheel (Indy car) racing.
10. In the episode "Daddy's Little Girl," what sport does John try out for a diversion from the pressures of racing?

Answer: Target shooting

It's a funny scene as the instructor tries to get John to calm down. That same week, Courtney Force attends her senior prom.
