Brian was a coworker/friend of David's. One morning, Brian pulled up to the construction site on his motorcycle and was talking with David. David turned his back on Brian and when he turned around, saw Brian laying face-down in the dirt. David later explains that Brian died of a heart attack, but they had a fancy name for it when it happens to someone so young.

Nicholas found a cat on the roof of the garage. He tried shooing it away to go home, but the cat wouldn't leave. He then tried hiding the cat in a bag in his bedroom, but Tommy found out and told Nicholas that the best choice would be to ask Tom for permission.

Nicholas went downstairs and found Tom and Abby in the screened-in room. Nicholas originally asks a hypothetical question, to test the waters, and Tom responds maybe. Abby says 'maybe - with reservations.' Tom wouldn't give a complete answer until he found out what Nicholas wanted.

When Nicholas explained how he came upon to have a cat, Tom (amazingly) said yes quickly. Abby said yes, but on the condition that the cat stayed in the garage.

Tom was complaining to Abby about how he didn't think the Bradfords would beat the Maxwells in the upcoming game. The family needed new plays in order to win, Tom decided. Abby tried convincing Tom to just cancel the game - there were too many injuries and grass stains, but Tom refused.

David's friend Brian died and David was keeping Brian's motorcycle. David tried bringing it to Brian's family, but the family was too distraught to think of receiving Brian's belongings.

A coworker of David's gave David some pills which made him take more risks. He came by the house one morning to return the tie he borrowed from Tom. Tommy saw the motorcycle and asked for a ride to school. Abby and Susan were in the kitchen when David told Tommy to go get his books and didn't say anything. The two women just looked at each other with worried expressions.

Tom was in the foyer when David and Tommy were getting ready to leave. Tom said it was fine if David wanted to risk his life, but Tommy was still under his (Tom's) roof and there would be no motorcycles. Abby and Susan walked from the kitchen to the foyer and watched this take place.

David's coworker saw him looking down (because of Brian's death) and gave David a bottle of pills. The pill bottle said the pills were for weight loss and the coworker claimed to know a doctor who would keep prescribing it for him. David took one of the pills and ended up mouthing off to his boss and acting stupid up on the top of the under-construction building.

Mary's friend who was helping deal with David's legal troubles told David that he should refill the prescription quickly - the doctor was going to be indicted the following week and wouldn't be able to write prescriptions. She also told him there was a reason for child-proof pill bottles: So people who shouldn't get into the medications didn't.

Tom had talked to David in jail, and David told Tom not to help him and to leave him alone. Tom relayed David's wishes to the family, but they didn't accept that. Abby mentioned she had some money, but it wouldn't be enough to bail out David. David later came to the house to pay back Tom, whom he thought had bailed him out. Tom told David that it was David's brothers and sisters who paid the money.

David then said he would repay his family. Tom wouldn't let him do so and told David that he would deal with the family.

Mary was attending the birth - she is the person who definitively said the cat was pregnant and who figured out the cat was in labour. She also was the person who declared the last kitten born. Abby and Tom watched over the cat. Abby claimed that it was hard being a parent.

Right after the last kitten was born, David pulled up in the motorcycle. Tom and Abby heard the motorcycle and Abby told Tom to stay and to let her try talking to David. Tom wouldn't let her and went outside to David where he told David that David Bradford was welcome at the Bradford house, but the person standing in front of him wasn't. Abby and Mary looked on from the front steps.

Answer: David

Tom had forbade the family from contacting David, due to David's own wishes. Nicholas, however had a coupon for David for one kitten - redeemable in a few weeks - so he sneaked over to David's apartment.

Nicholas thought the name was cat-chy. The cat had had a name, but Nicholas didn't know it. So, to avoid confusing the cat, he would just name the cat Cat. Tommy thought it was a dumb name.
