Will and Carlton both decided to pledge Phi Beta Gamma, an African-American fraternity, but the pledge leader Top Dog (played by Glenn Plummer) had a personal disdain for Carlton, due to the fact that he viewed Carlton as not being Black enough for the fraternity, and referred to him as a "Bel-Air bred, prep school sellout". Top Dog made Carlton work harder than the other pledges, including Will.

When Carlton found out that he wasn't chosen to be a part of the fraternity, and why, he replied, "Being Black is not what I'm trying to be, it's what I am." "I'm running the same race, and jumping the same hurdles you are, so why are you tripping me up"? "You said 'we need to stick together', but you don't even know what that means". "If you ask me, you're the real sellout"!

Later on, when Philip found out about what happened to Carlton, he made a very bold, and poignant statement in saying "You know this-this really irritates me". "I have worked very hard to give my family a good life, and suddenly somebody tells me there's a penalty for success?" "I'm sorry you had to go through this, son". Philip then asks the question "When are we going to stop doing this to each other"?

Henry Furth, Philip's legal partner at his law firm gave Carlton permission to drive his Mercedes Benz to a retreat in Palm Springs, with Will in the backseat.

During the trip, they got lost. The police pulled them over. Will, and Carlton are later jailed on suspicion of being car thieves. Will staged a bogus confession on TV in order to get Philip, and Vivian's attention, since they weren't able to contact them over the phone.

Philip demanded that the police officers release Will, and Carlton immediately, or face his wrath with litigation!

Later, back at the Banks mansion, Carlton and Will argue over why they were arrested. Carlton maintains that the police were just doing their jobs, and that they were arrested for driving too slow.

Will explains to Carlton that they were arrested for being two young Black men driving something better than a lemon! In other words: they were victims of racial profiling.

The message is hammered home to Carlton when Philip revealed to him that once upon a time, he himself was pulled over by the police for driving too slow.

Will and Lisa lied to each other. They both decided to go to the frat party, instead of what they had planned to do for the evening. Will told Lisa that he was going to hang out with the guys, and Lisa told Will that she was going to have a sleepover with her girlfriends.

Will goes into the bedroom to get Lisa's coat. To his shock, and horror, he finds Ashley making out with a college linebacker! When Philip, and Vivian found out, they were livid, and extremely upset with Ashley.

This leads to Ashley running away (to the pool house). When Will found her, he took her back to the house. Philip scolded her. Vivian tells Ashley that she is going to have to start earning her and Philip's trust back.

Ashley Banks is played by Tatyana M. Ali, who is also known for her roles in movies such as "Kiss The Girls", "The Brothers", and "Eddie Murphy: Raw".

Lisa is played by Nia Long who is known for her roles in movies such as "Boyz N The Hood", "Are We There Yet?" (both of which she co-starred with Ice Cube), "The Best Man", "The Best Man Holiday", and "The Single Moms Club".

Lou Smith is Will's father, who walked out on Will, and his mother when Will was a baby. When Lou visits Will years later, he suggests that he and Will spend the summer together by taking a trip around the country in his truck.

When Lou tells Philip, and Vivian that he was going to cancel the trip, Vivian tells Lou not to ever come back for walking out on Will. Philip berates Lou for his blatant disregard for Will.

Lou disappoints Will by canceling their trip, leaving Will devastated, angry and saddened over the fact that his own father walked out on him.

Philip hugs Will as Will breaks down into tears.

Lou Smith is played by Ben Vereen, who is known for his role as "Chicken" George Moore in the original ABC miniseries "Roots", and has made appearances on TV shows such as "OZ", "New York Undercover", "Webster", and "Star Trek: The Next Generation".

With Philip, Vivian and Geoffery (Joseph Marcell) on vacation, Carlton decided to rent out the house for a music video shoot featuring Bell Biv DeVoe, with disastrous results.

Will's old friend Ice Tray came out to Bel-Air to visit Will. Much to the dismay of Philip and Vivian, Ice Tray falls for Hilary.
