Rurouni Kenshin is based on real characters and events that happened in Japanese history. The story takes place in the Meiji Era when the samurais were removed and swords outlawed.
2. The Meiji Era took place after the fall of what era?

Answer: Tokugawa

In the 1600's, Tokugawa began a war against Japan to win its leadership. He became shogun after controlling the emperor. In the 1850's, imperialists began uprisings against the shogun and got rid of the Tokugawa government, beginning the Meiji.
3. This character was the captain of the third squad of the Shinsengumi and later became a policeman.

Answer: Saitou Hajime

Saitou Hajime actually existed as one of the leaders of the Shinsengumi.
4. Sagara Sanosuke's alias was what?

Answer: Zanza fighter for hire

He was called Zanza because in his fights he used a large sword called a Zanbatou. He was a fighter for hire and was eventually matched up against Kenshin. Hitokiri, Battousai, and assassin were all names for Kenshin.

Shikijou was a spy for the Ishin Shishi, but Aoshi, the leader of the Oniwa Banshuu, saved him. Shikijou then joined the Oniwa and eventually was killed by a gatling, saving Aoshi.

She produced opium for Takeda Kanryuu after her parents died. She became a doctor because her parents were famous doctors. She also became a doctor to help people because she knew that the she had killed many.
