Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the classic "TOS" episode "Patterns of Force", this renowned Federation historian thought it would be a good idea to introduce Nazi doctrine into the backwater world Ekos.

Answer: John Gill

Skip Homeier, who played Malakon in this episode, also appeared as Dr. Sevrin, the Tiburonian space hippie that was poisoned by an apple in the episode "The Way to Eden."
2. Kodos, the governor of this doomed Federation colony, thought it would be a good idea to kill half the population in the face of massive food shortages.

Answer: Tarsus IV

One of my favorite episodes, this one directly involves Shakesperean themes; more so than any other "Star Trek" episode. By the way, what are the odds that two people who had actually seen Kodos (Kirk and Ryan) would be on the same ship?
3. Renowned for their advanced weapons technology, the inhabitants of this planet were killed by their own creations.

Answer: Minos

Apparently, the Minosians never heard of a master OFF switch.
4. In order to hide from pirates, the inhabitants of this world created a gigantic cloak. Unfortunately, this same cloak caused severe damage to the atmosphere and rendered most of the populace sterile!

Answer: Aldea

The good ship ENTERPRISE (NCC 1701-D) was able to repair the planet's atmosphere and reverse the infertility. Wow...that's heroic.
5. The Trill Symbiosis Commission unwisely allowed this unstable and muderous man's joining and later covered up the incident because it would expose that half the Trill population was capable of being joined.

Answer: Joran Dax

The chemical block used to hide the Dax symbiote's memories faded and affected Jadzia. Because of this, the station's crew discovered the coverup and threatened to expose the Symbiosis Commission's duplicity! In later episodes, we learned more about Joran Dax. We learned he was a NUT!
6. This former head of the Obsidian Order was the mastermind behind the disasterous Cardassian-Romulan attack on the Founders' homeworld.

Answer: Tain

Another reason I liked "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" was Garak. He was very interesting and his interaction with Bashir made for delightful viewing.
7. In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Timeless", this character sought to change 15 years of history and correct a mistake that caused the death of his crewmates.

Answer: Harry Kim

This episode was directed by LeVar Burton and featured Captain Geordi La Forge of the starship CHALLENGER.
8. In an effort to halt attacks from this species, Captain Janeway gave them hologram technology to hone their hunting skills so they wouldn't threaten other races.

Answer: Hirogen

Great idea, Katie! In the two-part episode "Flesh and Blood," this idea came back to haunt the VOYAGER crew. The Hirogen re-programmed the holograms, who ended up killing many Hirogen. The holograms also kidnapped the Doctor (in an effort to 'free' him) and later, LT Torres.
9. The acting-captain of the freighter FORTUNATE brought a lot of trouble for his crew -and the crew of the ENTERPRISE (NX 01)- when he held a pirate from this marauding species.

Answer: Nausicaans

Did you know that the Nausicaans allude to anime? There are many anime allusions and references throughout the various versions of "Star Trek." Of course, the Nausicaans are most famous for roughing up a young Starfleet officer so bad he had to get an artificial heart. What was that guy's name? Ha-ha!
10. Acting on his suspicions of Vulcans, this character had Ensign Sato translate a highly personal letter meant solely for T'Pol.

Answer: Trip

Apparently, T'Pol got an ultimatum to return to Vulcan and get hitched. She declined and stayed onboard ENTERPRISE. An interesting storyline would deal with the fallout of that decision, don't you think?
