Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the dolls Del has acquired in this episode?

Answer: Kandy

As seen on the boxes in the opening scene, described as "Your talking friend".

Del refers to them as near-perfect, leading to some questioning from Rodney as to why they aren't perfect. We later witness one of them speaking with a Bugs Bunny voice.

Del: "Don't worry it."
Rodney: "That's easy for you to say. I'm the one who has to go down the Arndale Centre and flog the things. Look at all the aggro I had last Christmas with them cricket bats. Each one personally autographed by Viv Richards."
Del: "Each one was personally autographed by Viv Richards... It wasn't THE Viv Richards."
Rodney: "No, it was Davy Richards' sister."
2. Del tries to book Rodney's band a gig for Halloween.

Answer: False

The gig is actually for St Patrick's Day, at the Shamrock Club.
3. Del plays a record of which band over the phone to secure Rodney's band a gig?

Answer: Bachelors

Del calls Liam at the Shamrock club while playing a recording of "Diane". He pretends to be at the community centre, where a local band is playing. Cue a scene where Del gives Liam time to think about the booking while pretending to close the door, laying down the phone and simultaneously turning the volume up on the record player.

After a couple of seconds he then closes the kitchen door and simultaneously turns the volume down again.
4. What is Rodney's role in the band?

Answer: Drummer

Del mentions in the opening scene that Rodney is a drummer without drums. When we see the band rehearsing, Rodney is in fact using two wooden crates. He does at least own some drumsticks, however.
5. What is the lead singer's nickname?

Answer: Mental Mickey

Played by the wonderful Daniel Peacock, Mickey takes great exception to this moniker. His demeanour throughout the scene, however, suggests that the name may be accurate.

Rodney (tapping drumsticks): "1, 2, 3..."
Mickey: "Hey, Rodney, I do the 1, 2, 3, 4s... 1, 2, 3, 4."
Del: "Hold on. Where'd you learn to count? Rampton?"
Mickey: "I ain't ever been to Rampton. Who started them rumours about me being in Rampton. I AIN'T EVER BEEN TO RAMPTON! I've been to Broadmoor once or twice, but that's beside the point."

[Note: Rampton and Broadmoor are psychiatric hospitals in England.]
6. Which actor, who would later go on to play a professor in the "Harry Potter" series of films, featured in Rodney's band?

Answer: David Thewlis

In a very early TV appearance, Thewlis plays Stew, the guitar player in the band. He would go on to feature in many films and TV shows, but is arguably best known for playing Professor Lupin in the "Harry Potter" film franchise.
7. Rodney's gig is successful, and the band is booked for more.

Answer: False

While we do not see the band perform, we do get to see the band making a hasty retreat out of the venue amid a fight. Whether the fight had anything to do with the music is open to interpretation.

As the band drives away in Del's van, they realise they have inadvertently forgotten Mickey. Cut back to Mickey, who appears to be quite happy in the middle of a fight.
8. Who is Del surprised to see when he enters the garage?

Answer: A policeman

Del had acquired some proper musical equipment for the gig at the Shamrock Club, but unbeknownst to Rodney, the equipment was only rented. When Rodney's drum kit disappears, he calls the police, believing it to be stolen. Del soon sets the record straight. As the officer begins to take an interest in the rest of the garage's contents, Del tells him he saw a couple of kids trying to steal the wheels from his car.

Policeman: "The stolen items consist of two guitars, two speakers and a set of drums. [Bending down to pick something off the ground] Here's one of your sticks."
Rodney: "Do you reckon you'll find them?"
Policeman: "Shouldn't have too much trouble. We'll just go round all the clubs until we find a rock 'n' roll band with a one-armed drummer."
9. Rodney's band features on "Top of the Pops".

Answer: True

We find out that Rodney has left the band following a disagreement with the other band members, who believed Del was setting them up. Del tries to convince Rodney it was all for the best, since the band was unlikely to make it anyway.

Cue to the final scene where we discover that the band has, indeed, made it, much to Rodney's despair.
10. What is the name of Rodney's band?

Answer: A Bunch of Wallies

The original name of the band is never revealed, but both Del and Uncle Albert independently refer to them as a bunch of wallies. We then hear them introduced as A Bunch of Wallies on "Top of the Pops".
