Somewhat parallel to the relationship shared by Sawyer, as "LeFleur," and Miles in the DHARMA Initiative, Miles appears to be a subordinate partner to James Ford, both appearing as police detectives.

In response to 'Locke's" reply that the, "The black smoke killed them," the children are somewhat upset. The Locke impersonate tries to reassure the children and the others. Sayid appears to be completely impassive and lost in another reality.

Answer: Sawyer must take a boat to Hydra Island.

The Locke impersonate confesses that he is, in fact, the smoke monster. Sawyer is mildly shocked but maintains a calm demeanor. The Locke impersonate tasks Sawyer with a quest to go to the Hydra Island, purportedly in order to discover the intentions of any inhabitants there.

Sawyer appears at the designated restaurant. He is not exactly sure how to identify his blind date. Miles tersely submits that she is a redhead. "She's a redhead. How many redheads do you see?" Sawyer then spots his intended date sitting at the bar. He inquires, "Excuse me. Would you be Charlotte?" Charlotte confidently replies, " I most certainly am."

Answer: Kate is viciously attacked by Claire.

Claire approaches Kate from behind and savagely attacks her with a knife. Kate valiantly struggles and asks Sayid for assistance. Sayid, lost in his own dream world listlessly observes the attack without rendering assistance. The Locke impersonate intervenes saving Kate from the attack.

After some calculated questions, Sawyer correctly deduces that this person is lying. Sawyer confronts her by brandishing his weapon. Zoe whistles and her companions appear. Sawyer is forced to relinquish his weapon and calmly declares, "Alright, alright... you got me. Take me to your leader."

Sawyer is watching "Little House on the Prairie," starring Michael Landon, who portrays Charles. Charles says, "Now that's what life's all about. Laughin' and lovin' each other. And knowin' that people aren't really gone when they die. We have all the good memories to sustain us until we see 'em again." These words tend to inspire Sawyer to make reparations with his botched date and Miles.

Sawyer enters the small cabin of the submarine's captain. The captain is making notes in a journal. Once they are alone, the captain introduces himself, "Hello, Mr. Ford. My name is Charles Widmore." Sawyer recognizes Mr. Widmore as the owner of the freighter. Nevertheless, Sawyer strikes a deal with Widmore.

They certainly do not trust each other, but Sawyer is allowed to return to the island after making an agreement. They shake hands.

Sawyer is a bit coy initially, but he reveals to Locke everything that had transpired aboard the submarine. Locke appears to be pleased. "I appreciate your loyalty, James." In reality though, Sawyer has his own best interests at heart. He intends to let Widmore and the Locke entity battle. During the forthcoming skirmish, Sawyer plans to leave the island on the submarine.
