Rodney is telling Trigger about breaking up with his girlfriend, Bernice, and how he told her that he is a free agent and refused to be tied down.

Trigger: "She's into all that, is she?"

Rodney uses the phrase "wherever I lay my hat, that's my home."

Trigger: "You got a hat now then, have you, Dave?"
Rodney: "No, No Trig. It's a saying, you know? Anyway..."

This is the first of only three episodes to feature Roy Slater. is the closes Del gets to having an arch nemesis during the entire series. Slater went to school with Del, Trigger, Boycie and Denzil. While the other four were perhaps not always 100% legal in all their business dealings, Slater joined the police force where he gained a reputation for, as Del says "nicking you for anything you did. In fact he'd nick you for anything you didn't do, and he wouldn't let a silly thing like innocence get in the way."

We also see Slater in the episodes "To Hull and Back" where he is arrested for diamond smuggling. His last appearance is in "The Class of '62", where we learn that he was married to Raquel, who is now living with Del and carrying his child.

Slater is played by the brilliant Jim Broadbent.

We first meet Slater after Rodney bumps into him on the way to the phone. Slater then notices Trigger. During their conversation, Boycie enters the pub. When Rodney returns, Slater says he is an old friend of Del and so Rodney invites him back to the flat where Del is.

Rodney: "I can't wait to see his face when you come through the door."
Slater: "it'll be a picture, Rodney. It'll be a picture."
