He is rescued with several of his shipmates and his wife Betsy. At first, he says he is Swiss, but later Horatio learns the truth.

2. There were three senior Royal Navy examiners officiating at Hornblower's lieutenancy examination. Which one of these was NOT present?

It was a sweet irony how Foster (with whom Horatio had argued with earlier in the film) was one of his judges. And of course, "Black Charlie Hammond". Harvey said nothing during Horatio's examination.
