Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What type of Christmas tree do the Matthews ALWAYS have, according to this episode?

Answer: Aluminum

Cory and Topanga have many differing traditions that are mentioned in this episode. Cory's aluminum tree and Topanga's real one is an important one.
2. According to Eric, what's wrong with having both egg nog and apple cider for Christmas?

Answer: They're not even near each other in the store!

This was a very humorous line. "It just won't work," Eric says. "Have you ever noticed that they're not even near each other in the store!"
3. Mr. Feeny reads a certain book aloud to the Matthews every year. This time, Topanga suggests an alternative. What is it?

Answer: Act it out

Topanga then gets all excited about her own idea. "Oh, and Morgan could be Tiny Tim! She'd love that!" Mr. Feeny then says, after Topanga runs upstairs to get Morgan, "And I'd be Scrooge and all the other parts!"
4. What is the title of the book Mr. Feeny reads?

Answer: A Christmas Carol

Charles Dickens' VERY famous book, "A Christmas Carol", has its actual first and last lines read aloud in the end of this episode. They also parallel a part of the story when Mr. Feeny is the Ghost of Christmas Future.
5. When Cory wakes up and Topanga has made him breakfast, what specially shaped food did she make him?

Answer: Pancakes

She made Cory Christmas tree shaped pancakes, with powdered sugar on them (to Cory's disliking). The powdered sugar was snow!
6. What was wrong with Cory's orange juice?

Answer: Had grapefruit juice in it

Topanga hands him the juice, and Cory sips it. Immediately after, he says, "Whatdya do to it?!" "I added grapefruit juice," she says. Then Cory responds, "Why?"
7. When Topanga asks Cory to go caroling, it's the "last straw". What's Cory's reason for not caroling?

Answer: He doesn't like to sing.

Cory hates singing! He tells this to Topanga, who, he remarks, SHOULD know this, then walks out of the house. A little bit afraid to embarrass himself, I'm guessing? By the way, I've had this feeling Ben Savage can't sing. Remember Karaoke night? Cory "sang" that "War" song- and no real singing involved for that.
8. When Cory goes to Shawn's apartment after storming out of the house, Shawn tells Cory to suck it up. It's Christmas, after all, and Cory loves Topanga. Shawn tells Cory about how Jack and he have NOTHING at all in common. A minute later, the brothers find a similarity. What is it?

Answer: Liking ice skating

Jack does like skiing, but Shawn's always been much too poor for that. Turns out Jack and Shawn both enjoy ice skting, though. It's funny how they find a way to celebrate together despite all their differences right in front of Cory. Then Jack remarks about how he "especially likes skating in France." Shawn jokingly says, "don't ruin this."
9. In Topanga's future, if Cory doesn't decide to change his ways, she is happily married to Jack. What tradition of Topanga's is compromised?

Answer: Having a real tree- she settles for aluminum

At first, Cory does think Jack's just a man delivering firewood, but electric heat was never a tradition at Topanga's house. Then Cory thinks Topanga does everthing her way when he sees the presents being opened on Christmas Eve. But Mr. Feeny (The Ghost of Christmas Future) proves him wrong- "Look at the tree," he says. Jack and Topanga have an aluminum tree! Turns out compromises can be made when it comes to marriage.
10. At the very end of this episode, Mr. Feeny reads the first line from Charles Dickens' "immortal tale". What is it?

Answer: Marley was dead: to begin with.

I, who myself have just started reading the book, recognized those words immediately. The part Mr. Feeny actually reads extends a bit more:
"Marley was dead: to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. The register of his burial was signed by the clergyman, the undertaker, and the chief mourner..."
(This was taken directly from "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens.)
