Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who accompanied Octavian to Egypt?

Answer: Pullo

Octavian knew that Vorenus was still with Mark Antony. As Pullo was best friends with Vorenus, Octavian decided to bring Pullo along to try and negotiate with Mark Antony.

Vorenus and Mark Antony did not accompany Octavian - they were in Egypt already when Octavian arrived.
2. While negotiating with Octavian, what was one of Mark Antony's offers?

Answer: Live in Egypt as a private citizen

Mark Antony offered to leave all politics, but Octavian flat-out refused the offer and again proposed the previous terms. Mark Antony was insulted and then offered a duel between Mark Antony and Octavian - man to man. Mark Antony believed Octavian couldn't refuse (or else he'd be labeled a coward), but Octavian did refuse, perhaps because Octavian's messenger let Octavian know that Mark Antony was not lucid.
3. What was Caesar's private offer to Cleopatra?

Answer: Deliver Mark Antony and she and her children would be spared

Octavian, upon hearing that Cleopatra was lucid and Mark Antony wasn't, had a secret offer sent to Cleopatra. This offer was if she delivered Mark Antony (dead or alive), Cleopatra and her children would remain unharmed.

Cleopatra decided to go with Octavian's offer.
4. What did Mark Antony mention as part of his remaining army?

Answer: Prostitutes

After his defeat, Mark Antony and Cleopatra holed up in the palace while a great orgy went on. Cleopatra started to plead with him to figure out a way out of this, but Mark Antony replied that he was a soldier - not a magician. He then told Cleopatra to look around at the remains of their army and mentions (among others) prostitutes and hermaphrodites.
5. Who called Octavian a liar while all the women were together eating?

Answer: Octavia

Octavia, Atia, Livia and Livia's mother ate together when Livia claimed that Octavian had told her that Mark Antony was a coward as he ran from battle. Octavia argued against this, saying that Mark Antony took the gold in order to raise a further army. Livia and Octavia started to fight and Octavia said that Octavian was a liar.

Atia was quiet throughout the entire meal, only speaking to mention that Octavian used to be a good boy and that how he ended up was probably her fault.
6. What did Cleopatra's slave tell Mark Antony?

Answer: Cleopatra had killed herself

Mar Antony and Cleopatra discussed suicide - Mark Antony wanted to kill himself then and there, but Cleopatra told him to wait until the sun went up. Mark Antony agreed and Cleopatra told Mark Antony to go have a drink - she wanted to rest a while.

While talking with Vorenus, Cleopatra's slave entered the room with a blood-laden dagger and a note for Mark Antony. The note was supposedly from Cleopatra, claiming to have loved Mark Antony and begging him to follow her quickly (in death). Mark Antony was then told by the slave that queens die alone.

Mark Antony quickly decided the dagger wouldn't suffice and that he wanted to die using a good Roman sword. He had Vorenus hold the sword while he walked into it, dying while embracing Vorenus.
7. What did Vorenus do with Mark Antony's body?

Answer: Dressed it in his armor

Vorenus cleaned Mark Antony's body and dressed it in his armor. He then sat the body on one of the thrones, helmet on his lap.
8. What surprise does Vorenus find out?

Answer: Cleopatra didn't kill herself

While finishing dressing Mark Antony's body, Cleopatra enters the room. She claimed that it was the only way she could save everyone. Vorenus glared at her and eventually let into her with what he really thought of her. Vorenus continued by saying that Octavian would parade her through the streets of Rome and killed Caesarion - contrary to what he had written in his note.
9. Who did Vorenus smuggle out of the palace?

Answer: Caesarion

Vorenus know that if Octavian got his hands on Caesarion, Octavian would kill him. So Vorenus convinced Cleopatra to let him take Caesarion and the two literally walked out of the palace dressed as peasants.
10. Octavian met with Cleopatra following Mark Antony's suicide. However, Octavian's aids didn't believe the meeting went very well. Why?

Answer: Octavian's attitude

Octavian said that he wouldn't take Cleopatra by force when he met with Cleopatra because why use force when she'll come willingly? Octavian was then told that despite his attempt at being kind and generous, he didn't really come off that way.

In the palace, Cleopatra went back to be with Mark Antony's body. She told the body that Mark Antony had been right: Octavian really was a monster.
