Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the school Christmas recital, Lisa played the role of Santa Claus from which region of the world?

Answer: The South Seas

In the beginning of the Christmas special, Homer, Marge, and Maggie arrive at the Springfield Elementary School Christmas recital (although Homer describes it as being dragged to the event). Lisa's second grade class introduces the different forms of Santa Claus throughout the world, and during her performance as Towanga, the Santa of the South Seas, Lisa juggles flaming batons and wears a revealing grass skirt.

Other children merely described the Santa through a brief summary.
2. According to her Christmas list, what does Lisa want for Christmas?

Answer: A pony

Lisa feels that since she's been extra-good over the past year, Santa will finally deliver her pony. Although she doesn't get her pony in this episode, Homer buys one for her in the eighth episode of season three, "Lisa's Pony". Bart's Christmas List includes the famous tattoo which the family is forced to spend their Christmas money to remove. Homer says he can get it if he uses his own allowance on it.
3. What is spelled out in lights in Ned Flanders' outdoor Christmas decoration display?

Answer: Merry Xmas

While Homer struggles to create a dazzling Christmas light display (which fails), Ned Flanders constructs his elaborate display next door. This includes the words 'Merry Xmas' on the roof of his house in Christmas lights, a plastic Santa which waves and says 'Ho Ho Ho', and many plastic elves.
4. Where does Marge hide her Christmas money?

Answer: In her hair

The following morning, the family sets out to buy presents for Christmas. Marge reveals the family's Christmas jar to Homer after she pulls it out of her hair and they take it to the mall. Unfortunately, the jar is emptied after Marge is forced to pay for the removal of Bart's tattoo.

This forces Homer to buy horrible dollar-store presents for the family after realizing that the Power Plant is cutting out the Christmas bonuses.
5. When finished, what was Bart's tattoo supposed to read?

Answer: Mother

At The Happy Sailor Tattoo Parlor in the Springfield Mall, Bart decides to spend his Christmas shopping money on his own tattoo. He decides to pick one that features a heart with the word 'Mother' on it so that Marge would feel better (and flattered) about the idea.

Unfortunately, she hears his screaming from the tattoo parlor and the tattoo is unfinished. She immediately takes him through the mall to the dermatology clinic to have it removed by laser.
6. While Christmas shopping, what is one thing that Homer does not buy?

Answer: A pack of chewing gum

In order to prevent Marge from finding out that he has no Christmas bonus from work, Homer takes control of the Christmas shopping and he goes to Circus of Values, a discount store. Here, he buys presents for all of the family, but each one is worse than the last, and each is less than $5.00. On the way out, he runs into Ned and Todd Flanders.

Their Christmas spirit encourages him to take charge and save Christmas for the family.
7. Who gives Homer the idea to become a shopping mall Santa?

Answer: Barney

Feeling depressed about the low Christmas funds, Homer goes to Moe's for a beer. Here, Barney says that he earned a bit of money as a shopping mall Santa, and Homer decides to take the job as well. After a strict training program, Homer begins the job, and he doesn't earn a dime of his paycheck until Christmas Eve.
8. How much does Homer pay for a Christmas tree?

Answer: $0

When Homer returns home from Santa training, he finds that Patty and Selma have arrived. They criticize his handling of the Christmas decorations and he forces himself out of the house to get a Christmas tree. Rather than pay upwards of $60 for a regular tree (or $45 for a slightly irregular tree), Homer sneaks onto private property and cuts down a tree (which includes a used birdhouse).
9. How much money does Homer earn for his job as a shopping mall Santa?

Answer: $13

After yanking off Homer's fake beard, Bart is in on the scheme to save Christmas, but when Christmas Eve rolls around, Homer's paycheck amounts to $13 (cash was deducted for unemployment insurance, Santa training, beard rental, etc.). Barney once again helps Homer by suggesting that he bet it all at the dog races at the Springfield Downs.
10. Homer bets on Santa's Little Helper at the Springfield Downs dog track.

Answer: True

Barney tells Homer to put money in on the dog named 'Whirlwind', but Homer thinks that 'Santa's Little Helper' is the dog that would save the family Christmas (with odds of 99-1). When the dog loses (and Whirlwind wins), Homer and Bart leave broke. They go outside to find a winning ticket, but they find nothing.

However, Santa's Little Helper's owner sets him loose because of his losing streak, so Homer and Bart take him home and they save Christmas.
