Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jaime Lannister

Answer: Brienne of Tarth

Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) arrives at Winterfell to warn the northern alliance his sister Queen Cersei has betrayed them. He sees his dear friend Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) down in the courtyard supervising sword practice. Their last encounter was back in season 7 when Jamie sat by the side of his sister/lover Cersei.

Now in season 8, episode 2, Brienne asks why he isn't tossing insults. He says he has come to ask to fight under her leadership. Two fantastic connections occur for them: Brienne vouches for Jaime when Queen Daenerys seems about to sentence him to die; and Jaime makes Brienne a knight, which she so richly deserves.
2. Theon Greyjoy

Answer: Sansa Stark

Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) rescued his sister Yara in episode 1, after which he had to follow his heart and go north to fight with the Starks in Winterfell. The normally stoic and mistrustful Lady Sansa (Sophie Turner) runs into his arms when she sees him. Later he secretly gazes at her with love and longing. Is there a romance ahead for Sansa and Theon, who have endured so much cruel brutality? For Sansa getting married was once "all I ever wanted!". No more.
3. Gendry

Answer: Arya Stark

A huge surprise for viewers was the romantic connection of the assassin Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) and her friend the bastard son of Robert Baratheon, Gendry (Joe Dempsie). He met her years ago when she was barely out of childhood and disguised as a boy; he was a weapons-smith bought and sold. Arya casually strikes a target three times perfectly, proving to him she is more than just grown up--she's a formidable fighter.

He confides that he is royal blood. They know physical love together, before they meet the face of death in the morning. Yet, Arya soon seems preoccupied with the Night King's approach and her private plans.

Note: As of this episode, perhaps Queen Cersei, Queen Daenerys, and Arya could be pregnant.
4. Ghost

Answer: Home territory Winterfell

Although you might want to answer "Jon Snow" where Ghost (Quigly) is considered, that isn't a renewed connection because the direwolf is always near Jon's side. In season 8, episode 2, Ghost appears on screen, at last re-united with his pup-hood territory, castle Winterfell, where he was found and raised with his siblings and the Starks. Though Ned, Catelyn, Robb, and Rickon Stark are dead, and the direwolves Lady (Sansa), Grey Wind (Robb), Shaggy Dog (Rickon), and Summer (Bran) are dead as well, Ghost is strong. Last we knew, Arya's direwolf Nymeria lives with her pack out in the wild. Ghost is played by arctic wolf Quigly of Alberta, footage of real wolves scaled up to direwolf size on screen, and digital effects. Rumor is Ghost has significant screen time in season eight.
5. Tormund Giantsbane

Answer: Brienne of Tarth

Several times in "Game of Thrones" the free folk "wildling" warrior Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) asked about "the big woman" Brienne. In his culture, women fight alongside men so he is excited, not put off, by her warrior status. However in this episode after Tormund makes it back to Winterfell alive, and joyfully reunites with Jon Snow, Brienne of Tarth shows no interest. Of course she's never been pursued romantically before. Also, she's likely in love with Jaime Lannister. Seeking to impress Brienne, Tormund tells his story about being suckled by a giant, and then noisily guzzles and slurps his brew, charming her not one bit. Wait until she sees him fight, though! He isn't called "Thunderfist" for nothing.
6. The Night King

Answer: Three-Eyed Raven

It's a surprising twist when Bran Stark reveals that he is now the "Three-Eyed Raven", and he bears the "mark" of the Night King on his arm, so, "He always knows where I am". Bran believes the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) targets him more than anyone. Sam explains that by destroying the Three-Eyed Raven, the Night King would destroy the keeper of memories for the people of Westeros.

Then the Night King could bring on the "Long Night", void of men and any memory of them. Bran/Three-Eyed Raven convinces everyone he will bait the Night King into Winterfell at the Weirwood heart tree, where the King will be vulnerable to attack.

There may be other reasons the Night King has such a connection with Bran, but as the episode closes, the ice King arrives, stopping his Undead army just outside Winterfell.
7. Tyrion Lannister

Answer: Bran Stark

Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is reunited with his brother Jaime, but most alluring in this episode is Tyrion's intense interest in his new ally Bran Stark. Tyrion was there when the boy was shoved from the Winterfell tower (season one), but now Tyrion pulls up a chair and invites Bran to tell everything he has seen and done. Bran says it's a long story. "If only we were trapped in a castle in the middle of winter with nowhere to go", says Tyrion.

There was talk in this episode about the value of Tyrion's mind, and we've seen him brilliantly strategize before, so the fact he asked to learn from Bran may bring important insights for the battle. Or, the Lannisters might do what they have always done--scheme, and stick together.
8. Missandei

Answer: Grey Worm

Although Missandei and Grey Worm entered Winterfell together in episode 1, in episode 2 on the eve of war, Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) speaks of his desire to be with and protect her, always. He can see that Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) is neither welcomed nor comfortable in this cold northern place.

He promises that after the Battle of Winterfell they will go south to her birthplace, the tropical island of Naath, where she was kidnapped at the age of five. There his Unsullied warriors "who are not a peaceful people" will protect her people, who are. Naath is a frequent target of raiders. One feels a foreboding about their fates. I don't even want to imagine a terrifying Undead Unsullied.
9. Daenerys Targaryen

Answer: Jaime Lannister

All her life Daenarys (Emilia Clarke) heard stories "about the man who murdered our father and what we would do to him". Because of this murder, Daenarys was told, she spent her life in exile, without her family, without their rightful crown. Now Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), the King Slayer, who killed her father King Targaryen, stands before her at Winterfell. For his part Jaime watched her burn his Lannister army to a crisp with her dragon, and he killed her father rather than obey orders to set King's Landing on fire. Now she holds court to take vengeance on Jaime, but Bran Stark, Brienne of Tarth, and Lady Sansa protect him. Daenarys must set aside her need for revenge.

She and Jaime set the past aside, and unite in this war.
10. Jorah Mormont

Answer: Sword Heartsbane

In this episode Sam takes the legendary Tarly family sword called Heartsbane, made of famed Valyrian steel, and gifts it to the Knight Ser Jorah Mormont. Sam explains that he can't even lift it.

Mormont lost the right to his own family sword "Longclaw" after he shamed his family years ago. It now belongs to Jon Snow/Targaryen. Jorah is seen reunited with his cousin Lyanna Mormont, who wishes him well in the battle. All seems forgiven between the Mormonts, and the Knight once again has a Valyrian sword.

For reasons unknown Valyrians steel swords shatter the White Walkers. Besides Longclaw and Heartsbane, there are two forged from Ned Stark's sword "Ice". These are with Brienne ("Oathkeeper") and Jaime ("Widow's Wail"). Arya has the Valyrian steel dagger and the sword "Needle", plus the dragon glass spear she asked Gendry to make. Gregor "The Hound" has a large axe of dragon glass. There is also the prophecy of "Lightbringer", which belonged to Stannis Baratheon. Last we saw that sword was with Davos Seaworth, who is at Winterfell now. It is said to be the sword of the Prince That Was Promised, who will save humankind. Only Valyrian steel and dragon glass are known to destroy White Walkers.
