Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As the Federation Alliance's invasion fleet heads to Cardassia for the final battle of the war, Damar, Kira, and Garak continue their resistance. Along with their civilian allies, they make their presence known by sabotaging Dominion facilities across the planet. What is their goal?

Answer: Cut off the Dominion fleet from its ground support

"Oh, when you were a small boy, I was worried about you...so secretive, so full of deceit. Who would have thought those distasteful characteristics would be turned to virtues?" Mila, to Garak

While rumors begin to reach the Founder that Damar is alive, Kira, disguised as a Breen, watches his back as he meets with the people to plan a revolt. They will cause massive power outages, disrupt communications, and most importantly, cut off the Dominion fleet's link to its ground support. The fleet will then be alone in dealing with the Alliance, a step towards the Dominion's defeat and Cardassia's freedom. Mila dryly expresses her pride in unlikely hero and revolutionary, Garak.
2. The battle ahead promises to be a difficult and costly one, but Martok predicts victory and reminds Admiral Ross and Captain Sisko of something he promised they would do after reaching Cardassia. What is it?

Answer: Share a barrel of bloodwine

"A bottle? I brought a barrel of 2309!" -- Martok

Captain Sisko, leaving his wife in the throes of pregnancy's first trimester, takes the new Defiant to join the impressive Alliance fleet and orders a course for Cardassia, where it will have its first chance to be proven in battle. The Sarah Prophet appears to him one last time, with more enigmatic warnings. Just before engaging the enemy, Martok speaks with Ross and Sisko, reminding them of his promise. But while Sisko expects to share a bottle of bloodwine on Cardassia Prime, Martok brought a barrel!
3. The Allied fleet and the new Defiant are hit hard in the intense battle, and in the chaos Miles' shoulder is injured. As Julian tries to treat his wound, Miles takes this unlikely moment to break what difficult news to his friend?

Answer: He and his family are moving to Earth

"Somebody has to teach you officers the difference between a warp matrix flux capacitor and a self-sealing stem bolt." -- Miles, future Professor of Engineering

Even Molly wonders why her daddy hasn't told Julian he is moving to Earth! En route to Cardassia, Julian mistakenly thinks Miles is having difficulty telling him that Keiko wants the Alamo out of her quarters, and offers to take it to his own. As the Defiant is racked by weapons fire, Miles confesses that he is leaving DS9 to teach at Starfleet Academy. Later, Miles surveys his empty quarters and finds the lost Travis figure from the Alamo model, bringing back memories of the friend he is leaving behind.
4. As the Federation's casualties mount in the aerial battle, the situation on the surface turns dire. Mila is killed, and the resistance leaders are apprehended in their basement hideout by Jem'Hadar with orders to kill. What turns the tables on both fronts?

Answer: The Cardassians switch sides

"That's for Lakarian City. Legate Damar, I pledge my life to free Cardassia from the Dominion." -- Ekoor, a Cardassian soldier

When she learns that civilians were involved in the sabotage, the Founder, irate, inflicts punishment on the Cardassian people. Lakarian City, its population two million, is destroyed. This news prompts Kira, Damar, and Garak to plan a more direct raid on the enemy at its headquarters, but their hideout is discovered by Jem'Hadar ready to execute them. The only phaser fire, however, is aimed at the Jem'Hadar by Cardassian soldiers seeking vengeance for Lakarian City. The tables turn in the aerial battle as well, when the Cardassians begin firing on Dominion ships.
5. Seizing the unexpected opportunity, the Allies forge ahead towards Cardassia Prime. The outraged Founder has to order her forces to retreat, and tells Weyoun to have her former allies exterminated. How does she respond to his question, "Which ones?"

Answer: "All of them. The entire population."

"That will take some time." -- Weyoun
"Then I suggest that you begin at once." -- The Founder

Once communications are restored, the Founder sees that the Cardassians have turned against the Dominion in the aerial battle. She regrets not having quelled their rebellion sooner, and orders her fleet to withdraw. Despite his declarations of loyalty, Legate Broca, Cardassia's leader, is dragged from her presence, and the Founder instructs Weyoun to have Cardassia's entire population exterminated. Though the Federation has lost a third of its ships, they press forward, the Cardassians at their side.
6. While the battle for Cardassia rages on, Dukat, his vision restored, returns to find that Winn has discovered how to unleash the Pah-wraiths on an unsuspecting Alpha Quadrant. They make the long trek to the Fire Caves, but Dukat is initially disappointed by them. Why?

Answer: There is no fire

"This may sound naive, but I was expecting to see fire. They are called the fire caves." -- Dukat

Once he and Winn reach the Fire Caves and prepare for their quest, Dukat is disappointed by the lack of fire. Winn shows him just why the name is an appropriate one, however, when she opens the Kosst Amojan and chants the words that breathe malevolent life into them, awakening the Pah-wraiths into fiery brilliance. She casts her Kai's raiments into the flames, shedding hypocrisy and giving herself to evil.
7. With Mila dead and the home he dreamed of returning to soon to be gone, Garak is driven by revenge, and he, Kira, and Damar make a last-ditch effort to infiltrate Dominion headquarters and capture the Founder. Upon arriving, however, Garak discovers that they have what ironic problem?

Answer: Their explosives won't work on the door

"Here we are, ready to storm the castle, willing to sacrifice our lives in a noble effort to slay the Dominion beast in its lair and we can't even get inside the gate!" -- Garak

As the Jem'Hadar start leveling the city, Damar and his compatriots set out for Dominion headquarters. Garak lingers, reflecting on his loss, and Kira tries to motivate him, suggesting he fight for a new Cardassia. Garak proposes that revenge is an even better reason. Their worthy aspirations, however, go awry when they reach the cargo door: their explosives are useless. Seeing the irony in this dilemma, a moment of hilarity ensues as they propound ridiculous suggestions, such as asking the Jem'Hadar to let them in! But, they are soon recalled to the seriousness of their situation.
8. Kira and Garak succeed in getting into Dominion headquarters, at the cost of Damar's life. Inside, they find that the Founder is near death, but she refuses to order her troops to stand down. They are also greeted by Weyoun -- his last clone. What happens to Weyoun?

Answer: Garak shoots him

"I still can't help but wonder...What's under that helmet?" -- Weyoun, his curiosity about the Breen (and ours!) forever unsatisfied

The cargo door opens, and the rebels are stirred to action by the sight of Jem'Hadar slaughtering Broca and his soldiers. Damar is fatally shot, and Garak takes up the rallying cry, "For Cardassia!" Garak, Kira, and Ekoor survive to reach their target and find the Founder virtually undefended, with Thot Pran at the front lines and the Jem'Hadar dealing with the Cardassians. For his derisive greeting, Weyoun is repaid with Garak's phaser. While the Founder shows regret over the death of the only solid she ever trusted, Garak is gratified to hear that he has ended the Weyoun legacy.
9. The Dominion has already lost the war, but if the Founder dies without surrendering, she knows that the Jem'Hadar will fight to the death and make the Allied victory a hollow one. Realizing this, Sisko allows Odo to see the Founder. What does Odo promise in exchange for her surrender?

Answer: He will bring the cure to the Great Link

"You may win this war, Commander, but I promise you, when it is over, you will have lost so many ships, so many lives, that your victory will taste as bitter as defeat." -- The Founder

Kira demands that the Founder, who is too ill even to revert to a gelatinous state, order her troops to stand down, but she vows to make the Federation's victory feel like defeat. Odo tries to reason with her, but ever mistrustful of solids, she refuses to surrender to them. Odo can only reach her with the link. Over Garak's objections, he cures her, and when they separate she agrees to stand trial and orders a cease-fire. In exchange, Odo will return home and cure their people.
10. Martok, Sisko, and Ross do meet on Cardassia Prime, but only Martok carries out the planned celebration. In DS9's wardroom, the Treaty of Bajor is signed, officially bringing the war to an end. To whom does Ross attribute the words he speaks at the signing ceremony?

Answer: A victorious general

"Four hundred years ago, a victorious general spoke the following words at the end of another costly war: 'Today the guns are silent. A great tragedy has ended...we have known the bitterness of defeat and the exultation of triumph, and from both we have learned there can be no going back. We must go forward to preserve in peace what we've won in war.'" -- Admiral Ross, quoting Gen. Douglas McArthur

Sisko and Ross pour their bloodwine on the ground, refusing to drink a toast to victory on Cardassia, where the death toll is eight hundred million and rising. Garak admits that there is some justice in what has befallen his often arrogant and cruel people. He dismisses Julian's assurances that Cardassia will survive, knowing it will do so, but as a shell of what it was: most of its rich culture is lost. Cardassians are present alongside members of the Dominion and the Federation Alliance at the treaty signing, where Ross borrows words from General McArthur regarding the end of World War II.
11. The Deep Space Nine crew gathers together for the last time at Vic Fontaine's lounge to celebrate the end of the war. The gathering also serves as a farewell party for several crewmembers who will soon leave the station. Who is leaving to become the Federation Ambassador to his/her planet?

Answer: Worf

"I am not a diplomat." -- Worf
"And I am not a politician. But sometimes fate plays cruel tricks on us, Worf. Come. Qo'noS needs you. And what's more, I need you." -- Martok

While Quark tries to hide the fact that he will miss his friends by expressing disdain for places like Earth, the others try to help Miles pick a new home. Dax suggests Rio, and Worf fairly demands Minsk! Worf has accepted Starfleet's offer to become Ambassador to Qo'noS, and Martok is thrilled to have a targ hunting companion in his new ambassador. Leaving behind a good friend and more in Ezri, Worf shares a wordless, memory-filled farewell with her from across the promenade as he departs.

If you look closely at the crowd of extras at Vic's in this scene, you will see some familiar faces minus their usual alien makeup: Aron Eisenberg, Casey Biggs, J.G. Hertzler, and other frequent "DS9" guest stars are in attendance. Producer Ira Steven Behr and more behind-the-scenes crew are also present.
12. Vic dedicates a special song to the gang, and appropriately directs the line about "that laugh that wrinkles your nose" to Kira, who prepares to be parted from the man she loves. She takes Odo to his new home, and as they say farewell, he changes his appearance for her. How?

Answer: He puts on a tuxedo

"My people need me. They need to know what I know, to learn what I've learned from living among solids. It's the only way they'll ever learn to trust you." -- Odo

Kira asks Odo if he intends to return after curing his people, but knows the answer: the Founders need to learn a new view of solids, which he intends to show them. She offers to take him to his home, and before they depart, he gives her the bucket he will no longer need. Odo flatly refuses Quark's request for a goodbye, but his old nemesis is convinced of his affection anyway. Before melding into the Great Link, Odo puts on a tuxedo for Kira, leaving her with this memory of him. She watches as he descends into the ocean, infusing it with life.
13. At the party, a sudden revelation gives Sisko a glimpse of his destiny, and he knows what the Prophets need him to do. He goes to Bajor's Fire Caves, where Winn has poisoned Dukat as a sacrifice to the Pah-wraiths. How do the evil ones react to her offering?

Answer: They restore Dukat's life and features

"First the Dominion, now the Pah-wraiths. You have a talent for picking the losing side." -- Sisko, to Dukat

Reveling in the fiery radiance, Winn gives Dukat a poisoned chalice to drink from, but the Pah-wraiths reject her sacrifice. Entering Dukat's body, they restore his life and Cardassian features. The Emissary arrives, seemingly helpless against the empowered Dukat, yet never wavering in his faith that evil will not triumph. Dukat telekinetically snatches the Kosst Amojan from Winn, and for her betrayal, she is consumed by fire. Seizing this opportunity, Sisko charges at Dukat, throwing himself, his enemy, and the book into the bottomless flames below.
14. By destroying the Kosst Amojan and forever condemning the Pah-wraiths to their prison, the Emissary completes his task. The Prophets save him from a fiery death, but he now exists in their realm, where he appears to his wife. Does Ben give Kasidy any reason to believe he will someday return?

Answer: Yes

"Maybe a year, maybe yesterday. But I will be back." -- Ben
"And I will be waiting." -- Kasidy

The Kosst Amojan is incinerated, and the Emissary is swept into the Prophets' white realm, where he finds Sarah, his mother. She explains that Dukat is with the Pah-wraiths, where he belongs, and that the book's destruction ensures Bajor's safety. Sisko, however, will have to remain in the celestial temple for an indefinite time. He sees Kasidy one last time, breaking her heart with the news that he has to stay, and leave behind his wife, son, and unborn child. His goodbye comes with a promise that he will return to her, perhaps even yesterday.
15. "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Quark's remark sums up the final moments of the series. Kira settles into the role of station commander and catches Quark up to his usual tricks, this time involving a betting pool and the upcoming Kai elections. Julian plans a new holoprogam. Even Morn is perched on his usual barstool. Whom do we see in the closing scene?

Answer: Jake and Kira, watching the wormhole open

"This may be the last time we're all together, but no matter what the future holds, no matter how far we travel, a part of us, a very important part, will always remain here on Deep Space Nine." -- Benjamin Lafayette Sisko

Settling into her new office, Kira congratulates a newly minted Lieutenant Nog: one of Sisko's last official acts was to put him in for a promotion. Kira picks up the baseball that still sits on the captain's desk, and tosses it once into the air. She finds Jake Sisko on the promenade's upper level, gazing contemplatively out into space. Together they watch the wormhole burst forth in all its glory, both thinking of what they have left behind just beyond its brilliant gates. The camera zooms out, and Deep Space Nine dwindles to a small point in space as the final curtain falls.
