Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. For the first time in "Survivor" history, the game commenced with four tribes.

Answer: False

While "Cook Islands" did certainly provide a start with four different tribes, the previous season, "Exile Island" (set in Panama) was the first to begin with four tribes. Their season included tribes divided by gender and age while "Cook Islands" was split by ethnicity. Hiki (Manihiki) consisted of African-Americans, Aitu (Aitutaki) was Latin-American, Puka (Puka Puka) included Asian-Americans, and Raro (Rarotonga) featured Caucasians. In the beginning of the game on Day 1, the twenty participants of this season had two minutes to salvage what they could from a boat and head to their separate islands.
2. Which of these large items can be found on Exile Island in this season?

Answer: A ship

As with the previous season in Panama, "Cook Islands" featured the Exile Island mechanic forcing certain selected castaways to be relegated to the solitude of a remote island for a specific amount of time. In some cases, the people heading to Exile Island were forced to wait between challenges and in others, they avoided Tribal Council ceremonies.
Again, like in "Panama", the people sent to Exile Island would have an attempt to locate a Hidden Immunity Idol. One castaway, Candice, was sent to the island a total of four times. She didn't locate the idol.
3. For the tribes' first merge, only two tribes remained. Which of these became one of the two remaining tribes after the dissolution?

Answer: Rarotonga

On Day 7, when gathering for a Reward Challenge, the four tribes of castaways were surprised at a completely random drawing of contestants who would, in turn, choose castaways of other races to form new teams. This mixed up everybody and most tribes ended up becoming a mix of all four.

When this was done, the four of these smaller tribes merged into two larger tribes taking on the blue Rarotonga colours and beach and the Aitutaki red and beach. Manihiki and Puka Puka were removed from the game.

The next Tribal Council was held the following night.
4. On Day 15, how many people were eliminated from the game?

Answer: Two

When Day 15 rolled around, the tribes were presented with nothing more than a Reward Challenge and the news that both would be going to Tribal Council that evening. The winners of the Reward Challenge (Aitutaki) would go first and have a meal following their vote.

The losers would continue on to Tribal Council but Aitutaki would have the opportunity to save a Rarotonga member by kidnapping them during the event. They did so to save Nate from the vote and Cristina saw her last day on the island. Cao Boi was eliminated by Aitutaki.

This would not be the only double elimination of the season. Another happened on Day 24.
5. On Day 19, before a Reward Challenge, the castaways were given the choice to join the opposing tribe. What was this event called?

Answer: Mutiny

When the tribes headed to the Reward Challenge on Day 19, Jeff informed them that they would have the opportunity to switch onto the opposing tribe, mutinying and taking new buffs officially. When this happened, Candice and Jonathan, both members of Aitutaki, decided to rejoin their other original Rarotonga tribe members and reconfigure the game.

After this, the Aitu tribe (now with only four members) won the challenge against Raro (with eight). They also won the proceeding Immunity Challenge sending Raro to Tribal Council.

The following Tribal Council on Day 24 was also visited by Raro; it was another double elimination.
6. On Day 25, the tribes finally had their final merge. What was their new tribe name?

Answer: Aitutonga

After a surprising double elimination for Rarotonga, the castaways united on Day 25 rather than compete in a Reward Challenge. As such, no one went to Exile Island. When they came together, the tribes decided on the name Aitutonga, a combination of the former Aitutaki and Rarotonga tribe names.

Although Aitu went into the merge with less tribe members, their standings improved because of the use of the Hidden Immunity Idol and because of past issues with tribal lines drawn from the earlier mutiny. Both tribes decided to live at Raro's beach.
7. What was the Hidden Immunity Idol in this season?

Answer: A compass

All castaways sent to Exile Island had their hand at unearthing the Hidden Immunity Idol buried in the sands and every few days, when a new cycle on the island commenced, a new clue to that idol would be given to the next person sent along. This season, the idol was found in a box buried in the sand on Day 5. Yul, the second person sent to the island, ended up working out the riddle with only two clues.

The idol was a compass found in a box with a note, and while it could be used until only four people remained in the game, it was not used during a Tribal Council all season (much like in "Exile Island"). Nonetheless its existence had a huge impact on voting throughout the game.
8. Which castaway won the most individual immunities?

Answer: Ozzy

When the tribe merged on Day 25, they also started to compete in Individual Immunity Challenges, protecting only one person at a time. In a total of six Individual Immunity Challenges, Ozzy dominated in five (while Adam won only one). Surprisingly, there were only two Individual Reward Challenges (and an auction) in this season. Parvati won the first while Ozzy won the second (though Parvati and Yul accompanied the latter).

There was no car challenge in this season.
9. How many members were on the jury in this season (for the first time)?

Answer: Nine

After voting Brad out on Day 21, the remaining castaways were shocked to discover that their jury selection process had already begun. Three Rarotonga members (pre-merge) became jury members which, in a sense, was odd because the final selection would mean an Aitutaki winner.

In addition to this new nine-person twist, there would also be a final three and not a final two. This meant that there could have been a tie during the final vote. Despite there being more castaways this season, more members of the jury, and more people in the game in the final Tribal Council, it still ended after the typical thirty-nine days.
10. Who became the Sole Survivor of the "Cook Islands" season?

Answer: Yul

When the final three of Becky, Ozzy, and Yul headed to Tribal Council on Day 39, they were forced to answer question posed by their nine jury members in order to secure their votes for the million dollars. After the casting, Becky received none of their votes because the others felt she rode coattails behind the eventual winner, Yul, who received five votes for his honesty, smart gameplay, and dominance of game politics. Ozzy received the remaining four votes, one each from Parvati, Nate, Jenny, and Rebecca. Yul won with the votes from Sundra, Adam, Jonathan, Candice, and Brad.
