Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many castaways were featured in this season?

Answer: Eighteen

Two tribes of eight met on the beaches of Upolu, Samoa where they were informed of two returning tribemates, much like already occurred in "Redemption Island" in the earlier season. This season, the returning pair were also former 'Villains' appearing in a handful of previous seasons each, Ozzy (from "Cook Islands" and "Micronesia") and Coach (from "Tocantins" and "Heroes vs. Villains"). To select their teams, the two drew eggs randomly, blue for Coach (for Upolu) and red for Ozzy (for Savaii).

They immediately moved into a hero vs. hero challenge for taro and flint.
2. Which castaway is revealed to be a close relative of a former "Survivor" contestant?

Answer: Brandon

Brandon, placed on Upolu, spends several days hiding his back and arm tattoos that actually feature the name 'HANTZ' on them so that he can prevent his tribemates of creating the association with his uncle, Russell, who'd previously played the game three times (getting to the finals based on his deceptions twice). Brandon revealed his relationship to Coach (who was, at one time, voted out by Russell) on Day 5.

He told the rest of the Upolu tribe on Day 8. He was voted out on Day 35.
3. How many Hidden Immunity Idols were found throughout this season?

Answer: Two

As with the previous season, one Hidden Immunity Idol was stowed away in a hiding spot at each camp. Ozzy found the Savaii idol on Day 4, well before anyone else and without any clues. He stowed it away without a need for further concern, bringing it out to pass around at a time closer to the merge.
The Upolu tribe had more trouble. Christine, who was frantic in searching for the idol on Day 1, located the first clue on Day 5. The actual idol was found by Coach, but not for another week.
4. Who conquered the early duels at Redemption Island, winning the first five of the competition?

Answer: Christine

While the first duelist to arrive at Redemption Island was Semhar, her first competitor, Christine, arrived at the camp on Day 5. Christine then commenced her domination of the game's earliest duels, taking the win in five consecutive match-ups against the pre-merge vote-outs.

Her run somewhat reflects Matt Elrod's streak in the previous "Redemption Island" season wherein he clung to the possibility of reentry from his early boot. Christine spent two weeks on Redemption Island-- nearly three quarters of her game.
5. Who was the first castaway to return from Redemption Island?

Answer: Ozzy

After the fifth duel on Day 17, Ozzy developed the idea for a big move alongside Cochran. Worst case scenario, if Savaii needed to vote someone out, Ozzy would give his Hidden Immunity Idol over and then voluntarily go to Redemption Island to dominate the challenges.

The plan was enacted after Upolu won their next Immunity Challenge. As a result, for the sixth duel, Ozzy knocked out the reigning castaway, Christine, just in time to get back into the game and join the merge with even numbers on both tribes.
6. What was the name of the merged tribe in this season?

Answer: Te Tuna

The phrase 'Te Tuna' was based on the story of how the coconut came to be in Samoan culture. After the sixth Redemption Island duel, Ozzy returned to the game and the Savaii and Upolu tribes merged with six members each. Because of the numbers going into the first merged Tribal Council, the anticipation was that the votes would go six and six. Ultimately, if there was a second tie, everyone except the people involved in the tie would have needed to draw rocks. On the revote, Cochran switched sides, ultimately spelling the inevitable end of the Savaii tribe.
7. Were any Hidden Immunity Idols used to negate votes at any point this season?

Answer: No

Though the two Hidden Immunity Idols were in play at the time of the merge, the very first post-merge Tribal Council saw the use of Savaii's-- Ozzy used it to negate any votes cast for Whitney. The problem was that no one voted for Whitney. It led to a tie that resulted in a revote and Keith's elimination.

The other idol went through to the end of the game; Coach never used it at any point, instead opting to wear it around his neck during the last possible Tribal Council. Though their presences definitely influenced voting strategies, their actual implementation didn't amount to much in the way of actual votes.
8. Which castaway was eliminated on Day 35 directly as a result of giving up their Immunity Necklace?

Answer: Brandon

Day 35 was an...interesting day in the world of "Survivor: South Pacific". With the final five castaways all part of the same Upolu alliance, the scramble began. After Brandon won immunity, the five went into their Tribal Council with very different ideas of what was going to happen, especially after a huge argument after the reward celebration (a pizza celebration for Brandon and Rick at the camp). Brandon got the idea-- as a thought given to him by God-- to give up his Immunity Necklace to Albert with the confidence that he would find forgiveness and not get votes cast against him. To the shock of everyone, this is exactly how Tribal Council went; Brandon gave up his Immunity and was voted out by Rick, Sophie, and Coach.
9. Who returned from Redemption Island on Day 36?

Answer: Ozzy

After a final Redemption Island duel on Day 36, Ozzy and Brandon faced off in a severe endurance challenge hanging onto a pole as long as they could. After more than forty minutes, Ozzy won the hard-fought challenge and his sixth duel in a row, surviving not only to return once (after the first chain of duels), but the entire second streak from start to finish. Ozzy would go on to win the next Immunity Challenge, but ended up eliminated in the Final Four on Day 38.

He was, in turn, eliminated from this season of "Survivor" a total of three times.
10. Which castaway was declared the 'Sole Survivor' in the end of "Survivor: South Pacific"?

Answer: Sophie

On Day 39, Sophie, Coach, and Albert, all of whom were a part of the same original alliance, were able to outlast fifteen other castaways and plead their case to a jury of nine merged, eliminated tribe members. All three were grilled intensely by the jury who felt either deceived or disillusioned by the remaining players who, as they claimed, didn't practice what they preached in regards to loyalty. Ultimately, the votes were cast and Sophie won the competition with six votes to Coach's three and Albert's zero.

The 'Sprint Player of the Season' reward and $100,000 bonus went to Ozzy.
