The Whisperers are called such because they whisper to one another to communicate so as to blend in with the walkers they move among and not be heard as humans. Negan is the longest-lived "Walking Dead" villain. As of season 10, he had appeared in over forty episodes, while Alpha appeared in a total of eighteen episodes, including one as a hallucination. (There are some secondary female antagonists, however, such as Jocelyn and Jadis.)

Lydia's father Frank is loving and protective of their daughter, but Alpha brainwashes Lydia into believing he was abusive. When a member of their camp turns and begins attacking others, Alpha decides its time to leave the camp, but Frank insists on staying with their friends. So Alpha stabs him in the neck and takes Lydia. These scenes occur in the season 9 flashback "Omega."

Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, and Beta is the second, thus indicating ranking within the tribe. Gamma is the third letter of the Greek alphabet, and Alpha does eventually anoint a third-in-command, a woman who kills her own sister to protect Alpha. Beta is played by Ryan Hurst.

In season 9, episode 9, "Adaptation," Alden and Luke have been looking for Yukimo by following a trail of arrows. They encounter Alpha, who is wearing a skin mask and at first stares at them as if she is a walker, but then tosses them one of the arrows, pulls a shotgun, and says, "Trail ends here."

Alpha says this to Daryl and others at "The Hilltop" in season 9, episode 11, "Bounty." She has come to collect her daughter, whom Daryl and Michonne took captive when they encounter a group of walkers on a covered bridge. Daryl has learned of Alpha's abusive past, however, and is reluctant to hand over Lydia.

Alpha says this in season 9, episode 11, "Bounty," when one of The Whisperer's children begins crying outside the gates of the Hilltop and thus attracting attention of walkers. During a bleak winter, Michonne, Daryl, Carol, and Ezekiel lead the residents of the fallen Kingdom to the Hilltop and have to pass through Alpha's territory to do so. All along they fear being discovered, but it turns out Alpha and her people aren't even there.

In season 9, episode 16, "The Storm," The Whisperers are shown to have migrated south at some point for the winter, like a pack of animals seeking warmer grounds. Beta tells Alpha, "The time away has been good for the pack," but in spring they return to their old stomping grounds in Virginia.

Alpha seems to have marked Daryl as the leader of his group. She meets him "The Calm Before" and brings him to view her massive horde, then swarming about in an opening in a quarry. She mocks him by implying his people are hopelessly optimistic, don't know how to survive, and that their communities are a "shrines to a long dead world."

In the season 10 mid-season premiere, "Squeeze," several protagonists have become trapped in the cave with the horde after Carol ran after Alpha and they ran after Carol. Alpha orders some of her followers to make sure they don't escape, but they do, except for Magna and Connie, who get trapped inside when the exit collapses.

Alpha speaks these lines in "Stalker," season 10, episode 10 of "The Walking Dead." She is preparing to unleash her horde on the allied communities: "Our horde will butcher and consume them. Screams will be song to me . . . We bathe in blood."

When Negan infiltrates the Whisperers, he develops a close relationship with Alpha, who at one point rewards him for his insight with sex. Negan later tells Lydia that he liked her mother, even though he killed her.

She chooses Dante because Lydia has joined Alexandria and Lydia didn't know Dante. (It's unclear what his name is to The Whisperers, but once in Alexandria, he goes by the name of Dante.) Alpha gives him the assignment to sabotage the community from within, which he does by poisoning the water. Siddiq remembers him, however, and when Dante realizes that, he kills Siddiq.

The audience sees Beta whipping Alpha in season 9, episode 16. Later, Alpha has Negan do the same thing to her, and then does it to him, to which he reluctantly consents. Alpha believes learning to endure the pain makes her stronger.

In season 10, episode 12, "Walk With Us," Negan tells Alpha he has captured Alpha's daughter Lydia and that he is leading her to where he is keeping her, bound, in an abandoned shack. The audience is also led to believe that is where they are heading through interspersed scenes of Lydia trying to free herself.

However, Lydia is not in the shack to which Negan takes Alpha. When Alpha pushes open the door and finds the place empty, Negan slits her throat.

Answer: Carol grinds its brains out with the heel of her boot

Carol impales Alpha's still living (but zombified) head on a pike at the border where Alpha once impaled Carol's son Henry and several others. Beta finds Alpha's head on the pike. For a while, he carries the still moving head with him in a sack, sometimes holding it up to hear direction from it. Eventually, however, Beta stabs Alpha's head, skins it, and uses it to make himself a new mask.

The title of season 10, episode 14, "Look at the Flowers" harkens back to the time when Carol told the insane Lizzie to look at the flowers while shooting her. In the season 10 episode, Carol becomes trapped and becomes delirious. She begins to hallucinate, including seeing Alpha, who taunts her to let herself die by allowing walkers to consume her like she secretly wants.
