Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who ends up mixing the drinks at Homer and Marge's party?

Answer: Ned

Homer and Marge prepare for a party at their house. Homer, trying to sneak some hors d'oeuvres, gets swatted away by Marge who asks him to be on his best behavior for the first party they've ever held for their friends and neighbours. The kids, meanwhile, are told to make their way to bed since it'll be too late and there are no kids coming.

When the doorbell rings, sure enough, no one seems to be ready. Nonetheless they invite their guests in and Ned takes to the drinks table to show off his skills in mixology.

He makes Homer a drink with several shots of hard alcohol (Flanders Punch) and it isn't long before he's slurring his speech. Marge warns him to take it easy.
2. Who isn't invited to the Simpsons' party?

Answer: Principal Skinner

While Homer gets his drinks in, the other party guests mingle. Barney, dressed shoddily for the occasion, introduces himself to Patty and Selma and receives a spray of mace to the eyes. Homer, now a bit intoxicated, jests with Dr. Hibbert (who doesn't take kindly to the fake fly in an ice cube in his drink). Bart sneaks out of bed to cause havoc but gets intercepted by Homer.

It's not long before the patriarch of the household is fumbling over couches, spilling peoples' drinks, and wearing a lampshade on his head. Marge is not thrilled.
3. Homer embarrasses himself by looking at which female guest during the party?

Answer: Maude Flanders

Shortly after accosting a man he's never met (by threatening to quit), Homer heads to the buffet completely drunk. When he asks Maude Flanders to reach for some peanuts deep in a bowl, Marge catches him looking at her provocative dress. Homer ends up passing out on the floor in the front hallway and, at the end of the night, Marge states her overwhelming embarrassment with him.

He wakes up the next morning still sprawled on the floor and Marge brings him out to the car for a chat (mainly to get away from the kids and spare them of the argument).
4. Homer, when looking back on the night of the party, recalls being completely drunk and incapable of self-control.

Answer: False

When Marge asks Homer if her remembers his behavior at the party the previous night he has to think for a moment. Ultimately he recalls a very sophisticated evening in a lavishly-furnished room with the upper crust of society. This isn't what happened. Marge says that normally she's very tolerant but this time he not only crossed the line, he threw up on it.

He apologizes and suggests they head to church, but Marge says he will not be joining her. She forces Homer to apologize to him.
5. Where is Reverend Lovejoy's couples retreat?

Answer: Catfish Lake

When Homer finally gets to church (late) he ends up squeaking his way up to Marge's pew. Fortunately it's at the same time that Reverend Lovejoy is promoting his couples retreat for partners who need counseling at Catfish Lake. If the marriage is hanging by a thread or simply in need of a tune-up, it's a worthwhile venture. Marge forces Homer to go on the retreat, signing them up immediately after and despite her husband's protests.
Homer, however, makes the best of a bad situation-- they can't call it Catfish Lake without there being catfish in the lake.
6. When plans fail with the babysitter, Marge is ultimately forced to fall back on which other option to look after the kids during her and Homer's stay at the couples retreat?

Answer: Grampa

The babysitter arrives shortly before Homer and Marge are set to depart, but when she realizes that she's at the Simpson household she runs away in fear. Evidently, when she looked after Bart many years before, he was able to drive the car after her in front of the house.

The ensuing fleeing wakes up Grampa; Marge ends up asking him to look after the children considering they're desperate. Grampa puts up a fuss about being the last person asked to do it, but he agrees. Funnily enough, Marge leaves emergency numbers for both Grampa and the kids to use, just in case.

While she does this, Homer sneaks some fishing gear into the trunk.
7. What is the name of the biggest fish in the area when Homer and Marge visit the couples retreat?

Answer: General Sherman

On the way up to Catfish Lake, Homer decides to make a small detour, stopping off for gas (even though the tank is full) at a local bait shop. Inside, while getting some live bait, he hears a story of General Sherman, a legend in the Catfish Lake region, known for being the biggest fish in the area. The guy behind the counter says that he weighs upwards of 500 lbs. Homer states that he vows to catch General Sherman.
Back in Springfield, Bart convinces his sisters to take advantage of Grampa by bleeding him dry. They begin by having him drive all over town.
8. According to Reverend Lovejoy, how long does it take to reconcile a marriage?

Answer: A whole weekend

Homer and Marge reach Catfish Lake and meet with the other couples who've arrived for counseling. Among them are (surprisingly) Ned and Maude Flanders, an unknown couple named John and Gloria, and the Reverend and his wife running the show. Homer asks if there will be time to go fishing, but the Reverend says absolutely not.

The introductions are particularly notable, especially when John and Gloria look into each others' eyes after an intense argument and find the solution to their problems. Ned and Maude reveal why they're there-- Ned is frustrated that Maude is underlining passages in his Bible when she can't find hers.

When Homer is asked why he's there, he says it's because he got drunk. When Homer is forced to state Marge's faults, he says that she can be a bit annoying. Marge goes on for hours about Homer's flaws.
9. While Homer and Marge are gone, Bart and Lisa end up staying home and watching which movie?

Answer: "McBain"

Back at home, the kids end up exploiting Grampa for junk food at the market before returning home to stay up late and watch "McBain". When they send Grampa off to bed, Lisa realizes she's having an ethical dilemma.
At Catfish Lake, Homer wakes up before 5 a.m. dressed and ready to go fishing. Before he can sneak out, however, Marge awakens and states that he's being selfish going fishing, especially since they're there to save their marriage. He pictures her as a catfish before asking what he should do, and when he recommends going back to bed, he does. When he can't sleep, he goes for a walk instead.
Coming across a fishing pole left behind, he picks it up and gets dragged off the dock and into a boat by none other than General Sherman. Marge awakens to find him being dragged around the lake in a boat, much to her chagrin.
10. What happens when Homer catches his large fish?

Answer: He tosses it back

Bart decides to throw a party in his parents' absence, going behind Grampa's back and filling the house with kids and deviants. Ultimately, this causes Grampa to feel as though he's failed the family. As he cries, the kids realize what they've done, feel remorse, and get to cleaning up. As they start to work, Grampa reveals he was faking it the whole time.

Homer misses out on several more couples retreat activities and in his absence, Reverend Lovejoy places 100% of the blame on him. Somehow he ends up catching General Sherman, dragging him into the boat and paddling to shore... to find Marge. Marge says that the fish represents how selfish Homer really is and, in anger, he tosses it back after six hours on the lake. They both realize that perhaps their marriage isn't in trouble after all and head home to a clean house. Grampa is praised for his work and the family discovers that his fake-crying was the key to his success.
